2009 silencer to fit 2010 bike

Hi all.
1st post, new to site,please be gentle .
why wont an early silencer from say 2009 gs fit a 2010 model tu.

I believe the TC has a flappy valve, so the lengths are different. If you fit a length of tube the same length at the flappy valve I believe the TC will fit the non TC
 
Haven't heard of anyone else that has made that work.
The pipes are a different diameter, the TC being quite a bit wider. Room for the flappy valve I suppose. There are link pipes available to remove the flappy or you can get a piece of pipe cut to the correct size, but no-one makes what you are after.
The pipes may not line up either. Even 5° could make it a PITA to solve.
Remember that you can fit the SC headers to a TC and vice versa. I had a set of de cat headers and sport exhaust from an SC fitted to my TC without any problem.
Swapped back after two days because I couldn't stick the noise!

A full system from an SC will fit the TC. The difference is ole at the flappy valve. But TC headers wont work with an SC can or vice-versa.

More than likely not John, my apologies. Brand new drive shaft and brand new FD winging their way from Germany as we speak. My cup runneth dry!!!! I may be heading north on the bike in the next couple of months to see "a man about a dog".......I'll give you a shout, I'd like to buy you lunch or supper.
 
At the risk of hijacking the original thread, has anyone got experience of fitting a standard full Single cam header and can system to a Twincam bike?

Did it make the bike quieter?

I have removed the flappy thing from my TC so that it can't seize, but now its i bit too fruity for the neighbours when i'm coming and going at odd hours. I need a little less throb and parp!!!:thumb
 
An SC decat header with OEM silencer was not quiet though not bad with catalyst. In terms of power the bike felt really corked up with the catalyst. Basically as bad as the crude baffle that it actually is. In terms of noise, the full intact SC system is probably better, that a TC without flappy valve, but it will affect power especially at low and mid range and noise might not be much different.

Alternatively fit a full aftermarket system with baffles. The Remus header and Hexacone can are not particularly loud without baffles. It's really quiet with baffles.

The full SC system will fit straight on to the TC but I can't see any advantage doing that for what you are trying to obtain.
Some feel that the TC silencer is slightly less restrictive than the SC silencer, hence the flappy valve. Nothing definite though.
The standard system, with or without the flappy, produces the best power with reasonable noise.
My TC is the same as yours at the moment, standard without the flappy. I've tried different systems including a full de cat SC sport system and an old set of standard TC headers with the cat removed.
All other options apart from stock are going to be LOUDER.
Don't start faffing about with aftermarket silencers and homemade baffles. It'll cost money and if you do manage to make it quieter, you'll almost certainly lose performance.
The best aftermarket silencers, like akro, are going to be slightly louder than stock and produce the same power as stock. So unless you're after more noise and the look, why bother?
If you want quiet and keep performance, you'll need your flappy again.
I like the flappy valve and think it works well. Keeping the bike quiet when necessary and a bit more vocal when opening up a bit.
Only changed it recently for something to do. It'll probably go back on again at some point.
I've 40k miles on mine now and a bit of preventative maintenance with WD40 seems to have kept it working ok.
I believe there is a silencer by Mivv(?) that's quieter than stock, but again, it's very likely that you may lose a bit of performance over stock.
 
My brother runs a Remus Hexacone decat system with Remus baffle. Even without the baffle it was less noisy than my bike running OEM silencer with de cat headers. With catalyst mine would have been a shade quieter until he added the baffle.

My bike currently has an Akraprovic twin silencer system. It's not quiet without baffles, but at 70mph I get much more noise from the front tyre than I do exhaust. Conti Trail Attack 2 are not noisy treads.

have now just fitted remus decat headers,link pipe to do away with flappy valve and whoooo hoooo.
bit louder in a nice way, more midrange ooomph. so, im leaving the standard silencer on.
looking forward to getting oooot and abooot.
