I'm looking to carry out a mini service on the bike myself as its only done 2000 miles in the last year. Anyone on here point me in the right direction as to what to look at? I'm looking at oil and filter, air filter and possibly plugs. Anyone recommend anyone on here that does service kits or possibly even an independent who they rate to do a good service cheaper than BMW? I'm out of warranty, 38000 miles on the clock, live on the Essex/Suffolk border but don't mind travelling to get a good service done. Also, is it worth replacing the air filter with a K&N filter? Pros and cons. Thanks in advance. Keith

As always, I would recommend Mikeyboy in Melton Mowbray. He will do a brilliant job, go through everything with a fine tooth comb and at a sensible price. He does full fluid change, valve check etc and will let you know the state of play on the bike so you don't waste cash. Your bike will feel better after his work believe me.

Don't bother with a K&N as they are a waste of money on a ditch pump engine. The standard filter does the job really well and changing the filter won't gee you anything other than a lighter wallet.

Cheers for that sgt Bilko, you've pretty much confirmed what I thought. I'll speak with Mikeyboy and hopefully sort something out, then enjoy a blast up the back roads to sunny Meltonshire. Much appreciated:beerjug:

I would seriously ask:
Why bother?
I know many people on this site would, if the BMW service indicator says "service" would do so, and if they rode the bike home and parked it for a year would leave in in for another service a year later with maybe only 25 miles on it,
but somewhere along the line one has to ask:
What has deteriorated so much that you need to service it after 2000 miles.
Try and apply commonsense.

Commonsense doesn't pay for glass showrooms, staff wages and expensive coffee.
