2010 Ducati Multistrada

As a long time Ducati fan and MTS1000 owner for the past 5 years, I had my deposit down before the bike was released for sale.

After my test ride I was very disappointed.

Briefly

Uncomfortable - seat is much too short and too close to the bars. Because its so sculptured you can't move back to make it more comfortable

Electronic suspension seemed to be utter rubbish. Wallowed badly on Urban settings yet still transmitted sudden bumps without any absorbtion. Sport was almost rigid

Multiple power settings - why bother?

I looked and a few other bikes, initially Morini Granpasso but the dealer was too far away, then GS1200. Finally R1200RT. The RT kind of chose itself with the big fairing, esa (that worked much better than the Ducati system), bigger tank, road size wheels & tyres etc.

After 6 weeks RT ownership I'm convinced I made the right choice

I tried the MS 1200 before I tried the GS and, having high hopes for an upright 150bhp bike, was disappointed. The engine is not pleasant, it's not a soft V twin like Aprilia use, it's a harsh engine that can really chug badly. Goes fast, nice and quick but it's quite small and with a rotten engine . . . I decided to keep my Hayabusa after that. . . . until i tried the GS :)

From comments on here just goes to show how different our tastes are and how much better the world is for that!
I did get pissed off by press ramming this down as GS beater even starting (what in retrospect was a stupid and insensitive) thread about MCN crashing one! But as in all things British we love to build up idols and kick em down.
Not my cup of tea, having sat on one felt like the old Multistrada riding position, but that doesnt make me right and the guys that bought em wrong!!

Enjoy and Viva La Difference!!!

Try the 2010 GS engine

I have read your comments with interest and agree the MS is not a direct competitor with the GS. It is very plasticy close up and with the carbon accessories it looks downright cheap !
The new 2010 GS engine is great, much better than the old lumpy one. Plenty of torque and grunt, I even had the front wheel off the ground with some aggressive acceleration. Its also great when bimbling round in town at low revs.

Nice bike the MultiStrada, very strong and quick bike, not a GS replica i might add... nearly as nice as the MG Stelvio ;)

Here is one which left us today on route to Portugal, seemed to be holding up to two up touring. will see it again in 2 weeks so will see ;)

Ducati don't make an adv bike
you gotta make your own

on the other hand....

adventure = an undertaking with an uncertain outcome.

riding a ducati = an uncertain outcome

ducati = adventure.

TBH, my next 'Adventure' style bike will possible be the new Triumph (Tiger 800 ?), and if that doesn't turn out to be the success I think it will be, I might go down the KTM route with the 990 SMT.
