I always have the feeling that it is popping and misfirering a little too much, but as I can read here, it is rather normal. And since I was coming from a Honda XX Blackbird any popping is unusual.....:-)

It have been running 5500km now....3700 miles for the ones without a calculator....

last 2 months I have tried 3 times that it have died on downshifting, I think it happend reaching 2nd.....
Once turning into a roundabout, started right away on the starter, but felt strange.....:blast

Anyone else with that kind of experience??

i see a trip to the BMW dealer X Mystic Meg:thumb2

The dealer here tested it, and didn't find any registrations of problems in the computer log....

And since it only happens so rarely it will be difficult to recreate....

I have had the same on my '08 GSA. It used to be always on downshifting from 3rd to 2nd gear. This was with OEM exhaust, then decat Remus, then Akra can then Accelerator module. Now, having fitted a Wunderlich Power controller, K&N filter and Iridium plugs its done it twice again but only when cold now so I'm inclined to think its fueling related. I had a dealer look at it a while ago but no clues.

A fuel pump issue I guess?

Well mine's done it ocassionally over the last 2 years...if it was the fpc I should think it would have died by now. Before fitting the latest bling it would only ever do it on quick down changes from 3rd to 2nd when the engine was hot. Over two years and 22K miles it maybe did this 12 times or so. Now, its done it twice in the last 600 miles since fitting the Wunderlich, both times when the engine has not yet reached operating temperature. So whatever I have done with the Wunderlich/K&N/Iridium plugs seems to have moved the issue in relation to engine temperature. Pure conjecture on my part though.

Mine has done this a few times in 4,000 miles, always on downshifts, can't remember what gear but probably shifting into 2nd as it is always when slowing down for a junction.

I think it proabably would do it a bit more but normally when shifting you instantly let out the cutch so the bike has no opportunity to stall, whereas approaching junctions the shifts are lazier and I may hold the clutch in for a few seconds.

Each time I think "bloody FPC failure" but it restarts and runs OK for another 1500 miles or so - obviously just part of the BMW "Character"

Well, maybe, but nevertheless if it happens in a crucial situation it can be the reason for a accident...."character"....hmm.....

But right if it happens only once every 1500 miles one can get to live with the risk, I guess.....still strange though

Unbefookinlievable.

British stoicism at its best :bow:bow

Funniest thing I have read on t'Interweb for yonks.:thumb

Very similar to the symptoms I've had. Intermittent and no faults reported so the garage are a bit stuck. It happened a couple of times in 27k miles on my RT but it has been more common on the GSA and recently had been happening a lot (about every 75 miles).

This is what I've found from testing and a workaround that helps (but doesn't solve the underlying issue).

Symptoms:
Typically, but not exclusively, changing from 3rd to 2nd with a closed throttle at lowish RPM, engine would just stop. Not hiccup but just stop. Would not restart until put into neutral, rather like the sidestand switch kicking in, or recycling the ignition.

By playing around on quiet country lanes, I could reproduce these symptoms fairly easily. Pull the clutch and 9 times out of 10. the revs would drop to idle. The other time, the revs would drop to way below idle say 600 RPM. 7 times out of 10 the revs would then pick up back to idle. The other times it just carried on down i.e. stopped.

The workaround was to wind the clutch lever out to maximum span - hasn't stopped since though I have noticed it try once. And, no, the clutch was not dragging before, the lever was coming back well beyond the biting point.

Don't know why it was doing it but now it's not doing it (touch wood), I've stopped worrying.

There's cam position sensor recall for some 2010 GSs, check from your dealer if your bike is affected.

Might be worth recalibrating the throttle position sensor. Turn on ignition (don't start the engine) and move the twistgrip from closed to fully open and back 3 or 4 times, then switch off the ignition.

Thanks! I will....

this is my story about cam sensor. I think it is fairly tricky to set up accurately and makes a big difference. after getting mine set up correctly after these initial problems it was 'checked' at 6000 mile service and then after more rough running found to be out at 7500. no further problems with stalling though after initial reset.

I've not had this problem, but when I first had the bike it did cut out a couple of times when I blipped the throttle (I know, no need to do that on the GSA. But it sounds great ;)). Anyway, mentioned it to the dealer when it went in for the first service. No fault found but checked the cam position thingy and been fine since :thumb2

New....

Got a new cam sensor today, seems to have cured the problem.

While at the dealer, I asked them to check the squeaking sound it have "from somewhere" under the tank under deceleration.

It is not suspension, since it is not making the sound when I compress the scock. It seems to have something to do with the front break, and it is NOT the floating discs, it is under the tank somewhere.

Anybody that ever experienced something like this??
