Hi all, the final job of the Covid lockdown after:

Fitting INNOVV K2 dash cam
Changing alarm module batteries
Touching in frame paint chips

........ is

Changing spark plugs and air filter, oil was done fairly recently.
Would you replace the air filter with a K&N or a standard paper type??
The bike has decat headers and an Akro silencer as well as being remapped to 130BHP so would a K&N be more suited or just save the money??
Also whilst I’m on ......... stick to standard plugs or upgrade??
Thanks

When I fitted my down pipe and go her dyno’d guy said standard filter fine no need to fit k&n.

130bhp. at the back wheel (i assume) up from perhaps 95 give or take is quite a hike. What torque figure did you get with that? Was it a "Hilltop" job?

If you have increased the output by that amount the standard filter doesn't seem to be holding the engine back.

I have used both. There is a difference with K&N which I prefer for riding, but i went back to paper as I am not convinced filtration is of the same quality and i want to keep the bike. mine is 08 so far down on power from yours. i think with 130bhp you won't gain any useable benefit from the filter, even if theoretically it improves air flow

On the filtration question of K&N. I fitted one to a Transalp 650 I once owned and proceeded to do over 100,000miles on it. I fitted it as getting at the filter was a right pita doubling the time needed for a simple service, and it wasn’t much more expensive than an oem one.

The result was only loads of money and time saved. The Transalp engine continued to run the same as it ever did, it burnt next to no oil and continued to do the same mpg as ever throughout its life. On that basis I would say it filtrate just fine. I cleaned the filter once. In fact I still have the remains of the cleaning kit. Increase in power? perhaps a tiny bit, can’t say I noticed though.

So fit one for economic or time/service reasons not for power gain unless linked to a whole load of other measures aimed at unbunging a restricted engine.

Sorry to mislead you ....... I wish it was 130 at the wheel! ......... I think it was around 114 at the wheel which I was told was around early 130’s equivalent engine output ......... so basically up by around 20 that’s all but the bike was totally different to ride after the pipe and the map. 20 doesn’t sound like a big leap but the difference was night and day. Sorry for the confusion

On the contrary, an increase of around 21% at the rear wheel is impressive and makes hell of a difference. Again, out of interest, what torque increase did you get with that?

I’ll try and dig out the printout, it was over 5 years ago now

Input a pipercross in mine back in 2009. Haven't had to pay for another air filter since. Almost 100.000 miles.
