I've not posted much on here recently, mostly because my GS hasn't gone wrong for over 80k miles

Sadly that's changed. Yesterday it started showing brake failure and messages like this:

Speedo doesn't work either.

I plugged in the GS911 and it's showing 10220: Can-bus timeout: no communication with ABS control unit.

Looking on here and elsewhere, it sounds like I need a new ABS pump / controller, or to get mine rebuilt. Before I tear into this, anything else likely to be causing this? The brakes work fine, no idea about the ABS.

Thanks!

Check the connector to the ABS unit and also that the ABS is getting power first - if you're lucky it may be an easy fix. Otherwise it does look like the ABS electronics are goosed. The ABS supplies the signal for the speedo.

a sensors shouldn't give no comms - dead modules always give that message as the bike can't have comms with something that's not working

cars used to get the no comms, when a wire between the circuit board and the multiplug magically falls off - many fixed with a paper clip where a single wire out of say twenty, has "magically corroded to nothing" as all the others look like brand new. When they got caught doing that, we got "magic solder", somehow just a single wire would jump off the board !

later they invented "interesting brush guides" - so one owner gets a different experience to the next guy - magically, ford brush guides don't play up !

Probably best to Disregard the above Drivel !!

1stly check your cables and plugs are connected and not full of water and not corroded

Then first of the power/comms checks is to Check Power and Ground to the ABS control Module (12volt)

"BUT" use an incandescent 5, 10, or 21w Bulb and not an LED,

LEDs can give a false indication that there is voltage as they draw very little current but once you use an incandescent bulb it puts a load on the circuit can't handle it

I hope this is the correct video with the use a proper bulb Diagnose Dan is very good at explaining "stuff"

Modules very rarely fail unless due to exterior influences! Water ingress, Power Surge or Damage to the power feed or twisted pair can cabling
