2012 R1200 GS Security whilst traveling

Hi

I'm heading off to Netherlands, Germany, Denmark, Norway and Sweden at the end of May and I'm wondering what security to take...

I have a Hiplok D1000 but the R1200 GS is a bugger to use it on other than as a disk lock (bloody tough one at that), with the UK scrotes cutting through disks to steal bikes, it's only ever used as a lock if i'm not leaving the bike for long.

I'm considering backing it up with a chain or similar to loop around the wheel itself but I'm also worried I'm overthinking it ...

What have others used?

Seems you have it well covered, maybe consider fitting a tracker, as it impresses the insurance companies.

I have stickers on my bike panniers that mentions, "No cash left in bike, but owner does come with a Shotgun".

Might have desired effect. :green gri

I had considered gluing an Apple Airtag thingy somewhere tbh.
I also don't want to overdo it and end up a nervous wreck.
 
I'd buy a cheap card tracker from Amazon , about 10 quid, 7 year battery and secrete it somewhere, wont stop a thief but may aide in recovery.

Also a decent lock.

But most importantly, I think, is choice of parking area.

If in a cafe by day, I always go somewhere I can see the bike.

My hotel choices are primarily based around how safe I think my bike will be, preferably parked right outside the room I'm in. I ask for a ground floor room.

Having said all that..........

I don't let it worry me, I'm on holiday.

Liberally douse the trip in common sense and it'll be fine, enjoy (y)
 
Just use what you do in the UK. Park it wherever you won't get a ticket and relax.

The DX1000 fits over the wheel/tyre, it's what I am using along with the Hiplock X chain.Much better than a disc lock.
 
Maybe they now do a motorbike version of Trunk Monkey?
