2013 BMW F650GS Spied

Hi! :O) I think this is my first post! :O)

I was talking to a Park Lane-London Motorrad dealer recently w.r.t arranging a courtesy bike, whilst my current one is getting fixed. I admitted I knew the risk of buying an 'Approved Used Bike' that was the introductory Twin '08 model, he must've felt my disappointment as we were working on finding one for me and I found one with another dealer in the end. Anyway, he quickly followed up with:

"Come talk to me at Xmas time, Freelancer...."

"...Sounds very intriguing," I said.

"Just mention (to him or to me at that moment in time as I was wondering what he was alluding to): it's about the F-engine..."

"Oh, OK (probably both us having a knowing smile at that point). -I understand you can't reveal all trade secrets. So, I will!"

-Now, I'm new on the block, but do you guys reckon we could be talking about a new F-model of bike? If so, what do you reckon the chances are of them reducing F650GSs to go, are? :clap

I've only had my 2008, 3rd-hand F650 GS (and my first bike :O) ) for almost 2 months and I've already got some thoughts about dis-owning her. I must be a bad biker!! :(

EDIT: FWIW, I've got issues where the bike's losing drive in 2nd gear down to a slow speed, throttle not responding, then the bike 'catching-up', bucking me and then continuing again! And also the engine cutting-out in 1st gear from rest when the amber fuel lamp is on (with 50mls estimated left and approx 3L of fuel) until fueled again. Not a great start to motorbiking or GS-ing :( ...But I've got some hope left, I guess :)

Welcome!

I'm by no means any mechanical expert nor have i had either problem on my 59 658 but...

The catching up - a clutch issue?

Cutting out when low on fuel could be dirt in the bottom of the tank or filter problems?

Really your dealer should have some answers for you and if you bought it used approved is it not under warranty?

The 658 was my first non 125cc bike and i've loved it for about 13k now, though the only problems i've had were a chain snapping and a leaky rocker gasket but dealer took care of gasket as warranty work. Asides that it's been trouble free joy to ride.

In wider terms, don't let one bad bike put you off biking. I'd do my darnedest to get the dealer to fix problems then ex / part ex it towards another - they are good bikes but i think some are just born not quite right.

Best,

S
