I am planning to do the above mentioned tryp and need some opinions or experiences about insurance and transportation of my GSA to Buenos Aires.
I have found a very good contact for insurance in B.A. for MERCOSUR countries that includes Argentina, Brasil, Uruguay, Paraguay, Chile, Bolivia and Peru. As you can see, this is not enough for me but I would like to share the information just in case somebody needs it:
Name:

My request for you guys is if anybody has had and wants to share any experiences with insurances in the counties involved in the trip and transportation to Argentina.
Thank you in advance and I hope my info can be useful for somebody. And forgive me for any possible mistake with my English.

Hi Scoobert,
I do not have plans to visit Paraguay this time.
The information I have about the security situation in Colombia is better than the one in have about Mexico, and will be there as well. One of the hilights of the route is going to be Cartagena de Indias in Colombia an the reports we have from recent visitors are good. I will tell you after the trip any way. I am more scared about our politicians here than the "drug cartels" there.

Agreed. As I said before. I am expecting more problems here with paperwork than in Colombia with anything else.

Cheers

Your English is a damn site better than my Spanish. For that matter it is better than my English!

I presume you are shipping the bike out from Spain but in the UK these guys are worth looking at http://www.jamescargo.com/motorcycle_transportation/
and they might be able to help especially if you ride to the UK first.

I can't advise regarding insurance but you might want to think of buying a bike out there.

You might also want to PM The Bede on this forum as he is or at least was based in BA and is full of useful advice

I have paid for a R1200GSA Triple black 19,500 Euros. I was planning to buy it in UK but decided to pay the taxes to help this f....g country.

Believe it or not, Jamescargo has given the best and only answer, so far. They are really professional. I haven't received any answer yet from the spanish companies I have contacted, so I am planning to drive to Heathrow to let them do the job. They deserve it.

I am affraid in my country, we are only good in sports.

Thank you guys for your help.

Cheers

Jordi,

I would be interested in seeing some actual costs quoted, if you don't mind sharing.

Hi AberdeenAngus,
It is a pleasure for me to share all my info.

The cost from UK to Buenos Aires is 1695 pounds aprox. They can collect my bike here in Madrid with an additional cost of 495 pounds.

This includes packing, freight, fuel surcharges, documentation, handling and export clearance. I will need to pay some import and local charges in Argentina (not big deal). This charges and paper work can be done with the help of a couple in B.A., owners of the Dakar Motors Motorcycle Hostel and Cafe www.dakarmotos.com .

Transit time 7 days. By ocean is 795 pounds but you have to pay more money in Argentina and UK and the transit time is arround 25 days.
People with experience recomends air freight.

I hope this information is useful for you.

Cheers and good rides.
