Just had delivered my new to me 2017 r1200gs rallye sport. Thought I'd pop to tesco to get some essentials and have noticed a slight grinding through the right peg when I lean the bike to the right at slow speed to moderate speeds. So 15 to about 35 40 mph. So it's most noticable if you weave for example. I understand that the metal rallye pegs do vibrate more than their rubber counterparts and I can especially feel it on deceleration but couldn't quite work out why the right peg vibes at slow right lean speeds but the left doesn't when I lean to the left.
Any thoughts would be much appreciated

Not a fooking clue … okay , what tyres , pressures , mileage , suspension settings ,boots / trainers/slippers need a bigger picture ..
 
It's got new Michelin anakee adventures, 36 front 42 rear, running in dynamic pro and normal dianese boots that I use with my other bikes including my r1200rs. Just tried the 2016 RS actually and it definately doesnt do it. I'd have just put it down to the metal pegs initially but it only does it on the right lean. 1 chap has suggested he had exactly the same issue and it was a partially seized shaft (sounds painful)
 
It specifically does it about 35 to 40. Just been out and checked and can be in 3rd or 4th. Just a grinding on the right lean. Doesnt grind on the right lean at other speeds gears and doesnt grind on the left lean in any speed or gear.

The dealer is 470 miles away and local ones aren't open! Lesson learned! Think I'll just get some rubbers for the pegs, to be honest i can't feel it in normal riding only on the weave at that speed. Might be the new anakee adventures
 
Sounds a bit like the old gearbox thrum. Most noticable 4th gear between 3-4000rpm, a bit odd ref. r/h only.
 
I had this on a 2018 GSA running Anakee 3s. Tyres changed, symptoms gone. Any wear on the right side of your front tyre?

My 1200 ‘developed’ a nasty vibration through the foot pegs at the speeds you describe. Mainly on the left but sometimes on the right. I really noticed it during my winter commute where the bike sat at 40 most of the time. It started to drive me mad as I envisaged all the things that may have been ‘wrong’ with it.
I fitted different pegs which did reduce it but it was still there. Strangely on the odd day when the roads were dry and I went for a blast round the countryside I didn’t notice it. Mate at work had an exact same bike, we both rode my commute and yes you’ve guessed it, he didn’t notice anything odd:blast. Initially I thought his bike was super smooth but towards the end of the ride I started to feel different vibes in the pegs:blast:blast.
At 3k miles I changed out the Annekes for pilot 4s, wow, far less vibes, no noise when cornering, still some vibrations through the pegs but better weather had arrived and I was riding it further and faster. I stopped noticing the vibes! They eventually completely disappeared when I bought a 1250:D

Dan, there may be something wrong with your bike but I doubt it. Change the tyres for more road biased ones and sell the annekes on here, plenty of people are quite happy with them. Once lockdown is over, take it for a blast and hopefully the vibes will disappear. Failing that buy a K1600:thumby:
 
Cheers Steve. To be honest its not noticable with normal riding and I can't feel it when I lean right on bends. There may even be a possibility that it goes away beyond a certain angle of lean but I didnt try that properly because I didnt want to continue looking like a scroat weaving down the road when I was supposed to be at home :D
I've ordered the wunderlich peg rubbers because I like the width of the enduro pegs. Incidentally in your experience were the vibes worse on deceleration?
It did have new wheels and "lower final drive bearings" replaced under warranty about 18 months ago.
 
"Lower final drive bearing"??? Wheels would have been due to the loose spoke issue and should have no bearing on this. AFAIK once you break open the FD you really need to change all the bearings in there as the process will potentially destroy all the old bearings. I would be investigating that further if I were you
 
This is what the invoice shows Steve just for info. Maybe they were all done perhaps.

BMW used to just replace FD's, apparently they were non serviceable. They then changed their tune due to cost. I've watched Mikeyboy tear one apart, it's a brutal process that requires knowledge and the right tools and jigs. I seem to remember there being concern it was beyond the capabilities of the average BMW workshop

Put the bike on the centre stand, free off or remove the brake pads/caliper. carefully rotate (by hand) the wheel and see if there are any noises or rough sections. Grasp the wheel at 12 and 6 o'clock and feel for play and also 3 and 9. Anything more than 1mm may need attention, any oil weeping around the FD?. If that's all OK it's probably fine. I rode back from Morocco with U turn Tony with a weeping FD on my TC and a really rough feeling when cornering. I was convinced it was gonna blow up. Turns out it was the bloody rear tyre!!!
 
PS. You could also drain the FD oil into a clean jar and see if there's any metal bits in there. Easy and cheap job
 
Cheers steve your a star. I've actually been chatting to the previous owner who is still a member of some of the GS groups on Facebook. He speaks quite highly of the bike.
Just been out on it again. Its definitely only in that speed range. You cant feel it through the frame or bars. Putting your feet on parts of the bike around the peg, cant feel it. You can feel it through that right peg even on the right lean decelerating and with the clutch pulled if you still lean. My RS doesn't do it at the same speed gear. Your original thinking on the tyres may be spot on steve.
 
Just a thought, have you considered checking the frame to engine mounting bolts for the correct tension? Might be something to look at.
