2020 CB500X

Well i am waiting for the delivery of my second cb500x this time it’s a 2019 with the bigger front wheel & better dash .
Recently sold my 2018 1200 lc rally which to be honest was a great bike but i just decided i was spending to much time cleaning it & looking at it in the garage so i decided to go small yet again.
My previous 500x took me a round northern Spain & Adora , Italy & Switzerland and apart from the gutless acceleration I didn’t miss owning a bigger bike
To day I looked up my old 500x on the dvla website to check what mileage was on it as I had sold it to a courier with something like 21,000 miles on it & as off August 2025 it has covered over 100,000 miles 🙀 that really put a smile on my face .

Nice hearing you liked it enough to have bought another. When is it arriving?

In follow up to my post #60...... after sleeping on it I returned the following day and bought the bike for $5,900. I'd been looking at other 22-23's for sale that have been less but this one was in the best condition, lowest mileage by far, with the accessories I want, and only 25 miles away. With the bike secured on my trailer before I left he went in to his garage and came out with a set of Barkbusters still in the packaging to give me which I thought was nice of him..

In the 800 miles I've ridden it so far I'm quite pleased with this motorcycle. The engine is smoother and more powerful than I expected. The speedometer is dead accurate with my GPS which is a rarity and it just hums along at 75mph as comfortable as can be with a bit more power in reserve for hills or overtaking. Fuel mileage has been great at an actual 67-68 (US) mpg. It doesn't give miles remaining but the display shows "gallons used" which is useful and pretty accurate. The tank holds 4.7 gallons and when it displayed "3.2 gallons" used, it actually took 1.3 to fill completely, so it actually used 3.4 gallons. The windshield was in the lower of 2 settings and worked just fine so I've left it there. The 19" / 17" wheels are the perfect compromise for an "all roads motorcycle" and I'm thankful they are cast and tubeless. The best way I can describe the handling is neutral, light, and predictable. In short just about ideal for all type roads from dirt to Interstate.

The only two faults I have are the seat and pegs. The seat has the common problem of being a bit narrow in the middle and sloped down to the tank where I kept sliding and there it's narrower yet. For the seat-pegs distance, the seat could be a bit taller or the pegs a little lower and maybe forward.

The relationship of seat-bars-shield is ideal so when choosing a seat kit from Seat Concepts I went with the standard opposed to tall and will probably fit SW Motech pegs that are slightly lower. The SC seat kit makes the seat wider in the middle, flat side to side, and raised the front while slightly lowering the back to eliminate the forward slope which really made an improvement. I'm no longer squirming after 45 minutes. So seat's done, hand guards are on now and I didn't care for the factory light bar being silver so I painted it black.

It would be interesting to know if the sprockets have been changed as you say the speedo is spot on.

No it has the stock sprockets Mark. Apparently the ones sold here are accurate but CB500X's exported to Europe have optimistic speedometers.

I was thinking of going up a tooth on the front but that'll make both the speedo and odo read 6% under unless a healer is added.

I changed my front sprocket and the speedo is the same as GPS now

I assume you went to a 16T? How do you like the change? I have the 16T sprocket I'm just trying to decide whether to put it on? If I do and like it I'll probably want to put a speedo-healer on. The one time I wish a motorcycle's speedometer was optimistic (which most are) and it this one's dead accurate. :(

Yes 16T, that and the Seat Concepts are my best upgrades

OK you, Cortina, and almost everyone else I've read who changed to the 16 recommends it so I'll put it on. I did this on a Tenere 700 and it really made for a nicer running motorcycle at speed in 6th w/o affecting 1st much.

The only issue I have with my 2023 model is that when I open the garage door I don’t immediately think I need to get out on it. Shallow I know, but there it is.

First run out to the east coast, round trip of 203 miles
Nice !
Good bikes.
We rented them in Gran Canaria.
Well, Wapping and I did and Stevie4Scoops got the CL500

I wouldn’t bother with the sw pegs. The lowering is unoticable imo

You are right the 16 tooth makes European speedos 100% accurate

Unfortunately I ordered them Friday. I'll say though I have them on a Stelvio and they made a nice improvement, if they help as much on this bike it'll probably be good enough for me.

Any one fitted a throttle lock / cruise control the type of one that replaces the bar end weight on a 2019 500x .
🤔
