2023 Honda Transalp launched

Ill agree on some points
Mid range its no GS or RS that's for sure but its enough to rip passed almost any car at 70 so overtaking is not willy shrinking but easily achievable,
Suspension to be honest I don't find it that bad I've would the rear preload to max but left the front as is for the time being seems ok, its not a R1 so im not treating it like one
Tubed tyres bit of a faf if you do get a puncture I may do the tubeless conversion that I did on the Africa twin that worked well enough,
No Cruise control !! all the jurno's slate it for no cruise control !! FFS a £5 you can get a gadget that clamps over the throttle and sits against the front brake lever that's what ive got and it works well, don't look great but it works,
I think the bike is nice to ride, enough real world speed to get you there and back, much quicker than the V85TT I test rode and people are taking them everywhere, its a whole lot lighter quicker and will with doubt have less rust issues than a 1150GS and look where they have been taken, all over the world and back, its not supposed to ne a R1, a 1300GS or KTM690 enduro it is what it is and for that exact reason is why I am enjoying it (for the Moment) LOL

Did you try a Vstrom 800 ?

No I did not try the 800 mainly as I bought a new 2023 1050XT and did the NC500 on it it was a good bike, and I was not disappointed in the power of the bike but the main things I missed on that was self cancelling indicators and the quick shifter, the weight at 247kg without the 3pce luggage, engine bars, sump guard etc etc was too much, I know ive got all the same on the Tranny but the starting point is its still 39kgs lighter than the 1050, and 35 lighter than my RS the power to weight ratio of the Transalp is actually more than the 1050, the other thing is I was not keen on with the Suzuki was the build quality and the fit and finish, the finish on my GSXS1000GT really was not much better, I went and had a go on the GSXS1000GX and that was very similar so decided against any more Suzuki's for the moment especially at the GX price !!
so got the Honda, the fit and finish is by far better, the plastics seem a bit more substantial and to me it just seems a bit better built,

Another 100 mile ride through A and B roads and a few country lanes thrown in and have to say it just gets better, the suspension I adjusted to max on the rear which I will back off one click as it seemed a bit pogo stick with it on full, its without doubt quick enough in real world riding to be honest if I wanted any faster I bought the wrong bike, rode it an a manor that I thought was too fast for a Sunday round the lanes ride with the boys and it was fine, heated grips are well hot which is a result, I set the quick shifter to soft and my god it is so much smoother than the RS or my GSs found myself using it all the time, Yoshi is nice and deep sounding with the baffle in, (not tried it out) First couple of rides I seemed to think it was revving too high, where I was in third on the RS id be in 4th on the TA so was looking to up the front sprocket by 1 tooth but when you get it on B roads if feels like a dirt bike with the ratio gaps between gears but it will rev high so not a problem 82mph is 4500rpm so thats not bad, if you give it the beans its up to three figures quite quickly, ill leave the sprockets as it is for the time being, the aftermarket beak arrived but does not fit with the upper crash bars no matter how much of it I trimmed, so thats still in the bag, the dash visor I ordered already came on the bike so I have 3 of them now if anyone wants one, must have come in a pack that was fitted,

gripes no outside temp gauge, no miles to empty display, rear shock a little budget, apart from that Im really liking it feels very light moving around the garage so thats a touch, is it a keeper ? Well they all are till I see something else I fall in love with!! but for the next few weeks Ill enjoy riding it

Just completed a 4 thousand mile Balkan tour on my Tranny.Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia, Serbia, Romania, Hungary, Slovakia, Czech etc.
Bike was superb and returned nearly 70mpg on the small roads. Some off road and it was great on that too once the traction was turned off.
Maxton modified the suspension prior to the trip and I cant think of another bike I would rather have been on.

Camping in Serbia. The hills are in Bosnia over the river.

What did you have done to the suspension ? and if you dont mind what was the cost
Cheers
Rob

New shock on the rear.Think its the NR4.With height adjustment and remote pre load. They resprung and re valved the front forks but no damping adjustment. If I got it done again, I would opt for the full hit on the front. But as it is, its superb.
Cost about £1500.

I dont feel its in any way harsh, quite the opposite it feels to me too soft, I doubt I would feel happy with it loaded with panniers top box and the Mrs on the back, for me alone ive left the front untouched and the rear on one click from the hardest, it rides superb set like that
