2023 Niken GT

That’s not important.
One must focus on the negatives and improbables. It’s what makes this forum tick :-)

:blast stupid me! I really should have thought of it before making a fool of myself.

I think Biggles’ comment was not so much aimed at you.

I too was wondering about the instant negativity shown vis-a-vis popping oil seals and, really, how often they popped on modern bikes. It is, as Biggles said, the forum’s habit to dream up negativity towards anything that is in anyway different or even vaguely interesting. It starts with chains, humongous metal panniers and finishes with anyone who doesn’t ride something that comes from Munich and looks like a pretend Adventure (with a capital A) thing.

I recently read a review that ended with the phrase

‘All the disadvantages of a car without the advantages of a motorcycle’

Got a link, mate?
Oh the joys of crawling over numerous sites whilst my wife’s watching her programs on the TV. I’ve had a search and can’t find the damn thing… sorry 🙄

TBH I quite fancy one, we had one of the smaller ones overtake us in the twisty roads in the Alps a few years back, granted we were in a car but I couldn’t believe the lean angle!

From which we might deduce that:

A. You might have imagined it

B. It might have been referring to an oversized trike or some such

C. As no other website has apparently put forward the same proposition, it might well be a one off

Should you trip over it again, whilst pretending not to enjoy Sewing Bake-off, do share

In the meantime:

Can you filter (lane split) on a Yamaha Niken?

Because the widest point on the Niken is its bars, yes, you can. It’s not quite as easy as something like the MT-09 upon which it’s based – I’d say it’s about 20% harder – but it’s certainly easier than an adventure bike with panniers on.

The biggest shame with bikes like the Niken is that people form an opinion before they have even ridden it, and that will be the only barrier to them trying the thing out, which prevents them from experiencing just how good this thing is!

Decision made...sort of. When we get back from our Euro trip in mid July we are going to see how much the stealers will give us for our 1290 SAS and take a punt on a Niken. Struggling to find a dealer with a demo but we did test a 2021 model last year and liked it alot. Now they have sorted luggage and rear end suspension it will be more of what we want. Just a pity it only comes in one colour.
