2024 CRF 450 RL

I wonder if it's time as a small capacity adventure bike is finally here. Questions I have (I'll watch the clip shortly):
  • Will it come to the UK
  • Will it have the same problematic throttle at low revs and will EU versions need a new ECU (Vortex) to improve rideability and power
  • Would a Kove Rally be a more interesting option (52bhp from the crate)
  • Are service intervals still 600 miles
If the answer to the top one is yes, and bottom 3 is no then I think its hugely interesting. As it hasn't had significant updates it's hard to see how it will succeed this time around.

Good to watch that, he's definately getting better as a presenter. They havent fixed the low revs stalling issue although it can be tuned out once purchased. I believe EU gets a different ECU which has lower power as well. Other than those issues it looks fantastic, just a question of how much money you would need to throw at an already expensive bike.

And I still can't find if it's coming to the UK.

A few years back I rode one for a day at the Honda Dave Thorpe off road school, great bikes. It was one of the original bikes, i.e. before they were supplied in the UK with the power up chip. Can't say it lacked hp for green laning/adventure riding but for racing it would benefit from more.
Great suspension as standard, light, nimble and very capable, you can tell it's based on a thoroughbred competition bike.

As for the short service (600m) intervals that put many potential owners off, I would say this only applies if you're riding it hard everywhere. I'd be happy to do it every 1,000m and it's only dropping a litre of oil out so not exactly difficult.
Dave Lomax of Adventure Spec rode one through Spain, around Morocco then home again, there's a video review somewhere on youtube.

A good review, in my opinion, is one that leaves you feeling like you really know what it's like to ride the bike.

And that's exactly what that review does. You feel you could buy the bike and know exactly what you were getting. Surprising, perhaps, how many reviews don't achieve that.

Is this a new model, or the old one that needed thousands of £££s of mods to be any good, especially the highly restricted UK/EU models?

I wonder if they've fixed the fairly common cracked crankcase around the drain plug issue?

Doubt it, not an insignificant problem either and a crazy solution to a drainplug non issue, using an older M8/M10 bolt design

Plus the original UK bike in stock form, even with the USA ecu giving full power was virtually unrideable, without a Vortex ecu/FMF silencer upgrade

I rode both a full power CRF450L UK bike which was horrible and stalled at every opportunity and a CRF450L that had all the fuelling mods done and it was quite nice/not stunning (albeit at an extra £1500/£2000 spent on those mods) - but the WR450F from Yamaha is/was just as good/better and a damn sight cheaper and fully tuneable ecu, all done with your Iphone and with no extra cost, to the bike owner/buyer

Yamaha got their 450 right, first time and Honda 450 is/was 'work in progress'

So lets get this straight:

  • It's gutless
  • Low speed fueling is pants
  • It's overweight, and
  • It's undersprung.
...and the improvement from the original 2019 is what exactly?

Even if all that had been fixed the original RRP killed it.

Adventure Spec are selling theirs - £6800

When they are sorted the torque pulls your arms out of the sockets.
They take some riding, you have to be on it all the time, or you are off it....Knackering for most.

My 21 year old nephew couldn`t handle it, so it is coming to Portugal (y) Just right for the trails round here, loads of loose gravel to take the load off...

That geezer was a fucking pussy...It shows so much, he has no idea of how to ride off road....I am shit, but he was woeful!
