Similar power at 72 ish bhp to the Tenere etc.

More info here and here

Weren't the Japs once known for moving tech and engineering along at a fast pace?

Their bikes now appear re hash after rehash but at premium prices.

I think they are in trouble. Lacking either anything new or character in my opinion.

Now if they had made that more of a sporty retro street fighter or supermoto style i'd think differently.

Not for me but each to their own

As you say, each to their own.
You own a 12 G/S which starts at over £14k and can rise to £19k with a few farkles.
The new Honda CB1000GT comes with panniers, quick shifter, heated grips, cruise, main stand and hand guards for under £12k.
Add comfort seats, taller screen and spots and it’s £12869 and fully ready to tour or go for a blast.
I think that’s cracking a value . Still £1500 less than a base 12 G/S with nothing on it .
Obviously different bikes but how many will use their 12 G/S properly off-road ?
Many will fit taller screens, and luggage etc to try tour on it as some have already done , pushing the cost up well over £16k.
I think the Japanese, especially Honda are doing an amazing job of pricing bikes sensibly.

Spot on! And the 12/GS is using its older 1200 engine.

Yeah, but the R12 G/S is the dogs danglies 🤣

I run an open mind on bikes, had many different makes. The Honda dealer is very close to where I live but the current crop just doesn't strike me as inspiring.
The transalp seems a practical tool but didn't scream buy me.

I can see you are a fan, sell me the dream?

I’m currently a fan .Have had around 80 bikes, and 12 of those were Hondas .
I just like their reliability and the fact they just work .
And their current pricing strategy makes the likes of Ducati and BMW bikes look way overpriced.
But I blame the advent of PCPs as many seem to just rent their bikes these days and couldn’t care what the gross figure is as long as they can afford the monthly payments.

The old SV motor was a 650 wasn't it? This 750 looks horrible, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder and if all you need something that's reliable etc then so be it.

My R12 G/S was partly a desire purchase and because I just like the boxer engine. A GS with all the bulk removed.

I paid cash, never used finance to buy a bike and never will.
Walking around the Honda dealer which is now also the Ducati dealer I did see one bike at over £30k
Now that is getting silly.
I get the quality / reliability part with Honda, they just don't make anything I fancy.
Ducati makes bikes I fancy but nothing that suits my needs.

The bmw ticked both boxes for me personally.

The SV650 engine is one of the nicest feeling engines ever to grace a motorcycle. Much nicer than all the 270 degree parallel twins produced to mimic its feel. I had an original Curvy SV as did my missus, and I've ridden a few vstrom 650's.

I kind of agree with you .
I’ve ridden a Vstrom 650 in Chile and for a week in Gran Canaria . Great bikes.
I’d say the 800 parallel twin motor is even better .
In saying that , this new SV-7GX could be a great bike for those that are looking to down size and don’t need a £25k Wankpanzer to nip out for a coffee.

The 650 was an old engine and a cracking powerplant ;; i think the increase in capacity will be to make up for what it loses through new emissions bollox.

My first road bike was an SV650S - the curvy one. Loved every mile I rode on it - sweet power delivery, lovely sound, plenty of bike for a newbie, and for a more exerienced rider too. Eventually moved onto an SV1000S - the pointy one. Loved that too...so much I've had three of them, two faired and one naked. Faired one still at home - I'll be buried with that bike all going well. If they've dropped that V-twin block into a more usable and modern package, it's sure to do well.

Looks like the luggage is made by Givi as I have similar extended rails for my X-ADV
