I am a bit confused on how to power my new 2610 on the bike.

Reading thru the threads here it seems that most people buy another car lead and hack off the speaker and then hard wire it to battery. However, I have already bought a 2nd power accessory socket and associated cabling from BMW to mount it near the bars so do I ;

1) buy the speaker power cable hack it off and then attach a BMW type plug.

2) Can I buy a bare ended cable ( i have seen one on gpsw website but not for the 2610 ) and then attach a BMW type plug.

3) Can I buy a power cable that has a BMW type plug already fitted?

So far i have only used the 2610 in the car and its bloody brilliant. I bought it from globalpos'sys'.co.uk and ordered the bike RAM mount kit with it so I am almost ready to go I just need to sort the cable out.

Thanks

Ian

Have a look at these: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=4668&item=5750544025&tc=photo

If the correct bare end cable isn't there, contact the seller "Vaerlosen" and tell him that you want a bare end cable for a 2610 and he should be able to help you.

You can then fit the BMW type plug to the lead, or even better, hard wire the cable and save your socket for something else...:)

I have no connection with the seller linked to above except as a very satisfied customer.

Ian - have you seen this thread about using a totally *other* connector? Depends on whether you bike is recent / equipped with one, of course...

1 - Probably
2 - Yes
3 - Yes, but I've only seen them for sale in the USA. Have a look here: http://www.powerletproducts.com/products/power_cables.php

THANK YOU

Thanks all. I am now slightly more the wiser, having read all the threads mentioned above, and I have emailed "Vaerlosen" reference gettting a bare ended cable for the 2610.

Cheers.

You want this lead:

which is available from GPS Warehouse

I got my bare wire cable from here
http://www.gpscentral.ca/accessories/bike2610.htm
Seems a bit much to have to get it from Canada, but it came OK.

To attach it, I unscrewed the left side panel on my 1150GS, which holds the accessory power socket, jammed the bare wires into the holes in the back of the accessory power socket (red to red, brown to black) and duct-taped it all up. Seemed easier than connecting it direct to battery. My heated waistcoat will work at the same time.

Has been fine for about a year now..
