turn it on and you get the usual blue welcome screen, then after a second or two, the screen dims, then after a second or two goes bright, then dim, then bright... you get the picture. It never actually boots up.

Any ideas? I'm in Turkey at the moment, so really need any input I can get!

Cheers

You could try this, turn the unit off, press and hold both PAGE and MENU buttons turn unit on while still holding buttons release PAGE and MENU buttons. This is a hard reset and not sure what it does to your info so maybe better to call Garmin. If that doesn't work then sorry mate mine had similar, it was the end. On a brighter note Garmin exchanged it for a new Zumo, latest maps, bike holder, all leads etc for the price of a repair £100 or so, just need to call them. 0808 238 0000 (within U.K.) +44-870-8501242 (outside U.K.)

Just called Garmin - spent ages on hold, spoke to some guy who obviously didn't know his 2610's from his elbow and was told that the best they can do is "repair" the item for £183, but because the item is no longer a serviceable item, they will replace it with a 2820 for that money. When I asked if he'd looked at his own website to see what else I can get for £183, I was told "some people prefer older units, so that's the best I can do".

Any idea who I need to speak to at Garmin to get better service than this. I've been a Garmin "supporter" since year dot!

Have you checked the power connection? It easily corrodes and can lead to dodgy startup. Just pull the plug and look at the terminals - they'll be green.

You could confirm this by trying to start it up plugged in to the mains.

I agree with Mav, mine feks about in a similar fashion when the power lead connection is green:thumb2

Good luck!

The connection was the first thing I checked - its not used on tke bike at all, just in the car and so no corrosion problems at all. I get the same problem with both car charger and the mains charger, so I think its the unit at fault.

I tried the updater software and it says that it can find the unit, but can't communicate with it :(

phoned the number for garmin they just said they dont support it full stop no offer of anythiong else !!! any ideas?
