2610 HELP!!!!!!

Recieved my 2610 from GPSw today.
Have tried to install the software City Navigator v7. When i try to open Mapsource i get a window that says that there is an error with the Mapsource registry so i must reinstall. I have tried this 10 times and am getting P****D with it . Tried to uninstall and i get a window that says there is a fatal error and to contact microsoft. I now think that these refurb units are a piece of S**T and on monday its going back!

I had a similar problem recently. Don't understand why your unit came with V7, I thought they all came with V8 from GPSW. You're entitled to V9 anyway.

I had to go into the registry on my PC and delete all the entries under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE--> Software--> Garmin --> Mapsource --> Families. This should remove all trace of previous half-cocked installations.
I then started the installation again with success.

Nothing to do with refurbs, I think.

Are you trying to download the maps ? or open mapsource on the computer ?
Have you registered the unit, put in the unlock code ?

I think, Im afraid, its more likely a your end problem than theirs. This is nothing to do with your unit. What version of Windows are you using? I probably cant help but someone will be able to armed with more info. Keep the faith, I love my 2610.

Running windows XP with service pack 2 installed.
Not a very computer literate person so i just do what the instructions say.

would not know how to get into the registry to delete the files.

I went through the complete instalation using all the discs(4) when prompted and went through the unlock/registration on the first install but was not prompted to on subsequent installs.

Completely confused and p****d off with it all.

Did it pop up in a window with mamessage saying to contact Garmin?

Mine did the same, but when I scrolled through the message I found this:

Did what it says above, downloaded and installed it. It wa snotobvious, the link takes ypu to a page you need to find the link for "Mapsource" and click on it. I am assuming you have broadband, if not give Garmin a call. By all accounts on here they are very helpful - surprisingly so in this day of next to useless call-centres!

Does Mapsource work or not ? Even though I got the error above it still worked. After installing the download form that link it still works. No tregistry editing required.

Don't know if mapsource works because it is when I try to open it that I get the message that there is an error in the Mapsource directory and i need to reinstall mapsource. Did not get a message to contact garmin. I don't have broadband and if garmin are not available on a saturday i have no opportunity to cantact them as i work on the railways track laying from 0600 to 1900 and mobile phones are banned whilst on the track. At present I am only at home on a friday night so completely scuppered!
