I have a new laptop that runs Windows Vista and on it I have the latest version of Mapsource and 2009 maps, all new and current.

In the 2610 I have a brand new 2 Gb CF card and have attempted to load 200 maps coming in at 900Mb. It happily builds the index and then hangs when attempting to build the mapset, prior to transmitting to the 2610.

I tried with a few maps and it works fine but not with any decent chunk of maps.

I have another laptop running on XP and did exactly the same and it worked fine, admittedly very slowly.

Does anyone know of a problem with Mapsource and Vista?

Also, is it possible to send a number of maps but in small chunks? I didn't think it was possible:confused:

I had exactly the same issue.

Garmin tech support are normally very helpful, but 4 or 5 calls still left me floundering, and I ended up copying a handful of maps at a time. I don't recall a permanent solution, but that was 9 months ago. I tried different versions of MapSource and 2610 firmware, but nothing seemed to totally cure it.

Once they're copied over, it works a treat.

There was a rumour that it was something to do with the speed of the CF card i.e. it had to be an older, slower read/write version. Mine is, but it still caused an issue! :augie

Sorry I can't be more specific, but keep persevering in chunks, and it should be OK.
