I apprecaite that a microdrive has moving parts etc. but despite the comments on suitability of the 2620 for bike use, is anyone out there using a microdrive device, either 2610 or 2620 on their bike?
Many of us using the 2610 but it isn't a Micro-Drive Equipped unit. They are Compact Flash expansion card units. Only the 2620 is M-D based and the two I know who bought them backed them to Garmin for a 2610.
Don't even think about fitting one on a bike unless you fancy the same fate.
Not wanting to challenge "accepted thinking" or anything, but a colleague in work uses his "work supplied" 4GB micro drive in his 2610 on his 1200 GS and has toured europe, and done some VERY gentle trails without a problem for over a year now. So they are not a complete no-no, just not as reliable.
Having said that, I'd still rather have a CF rathe than MD in mind (1GB Sandisk CF in mine).

I tested a 26xx with a MicroDrive in it two years ago, riding through Canada and Europe on my Honda ST1100. I had no problems.
But - unless you happen to have a surplus microdrive sitting around - the question is moot, because CF memory is cheaper than a microdrive now. Get a 1 gig CF card, that will be more than enough for North American or European touring, and you will have no worries about storage space or durability.
