Hi folks,

How have you fitted your 2610 to your 12GS? & whats the pro`s & cons IYO of what you`ve chosen, would you get it again?

There seems to be such a choice out there!

Pics would be good too :thumb

Thanks

Lee

Ah ha, I take it all you GPS guys are out riding your bikes so I`ll just wait for a reply when you get back :thumb

I intend to follow Mouse's lead...

The marvellous, mechanical Mouse mount

but try the U bolt through the hole I point out in a post beneath his piccies. I'm hoping to have the unit high enough above the clocks so as not to obscure them. I have all the bits I need now..... except for the bike!! :o

I like to take my GPS off the bike when I'm not around, and the cradle I got from

GlobalPositioningSystems

allows this.

Thanks Eddy, it looks like I`ll go for the RAM mount & seperate power cable rather than the Garmin one as it seems to have much more adjustability. Mouse`s set up looks the best for me so far :thumb

every thing you need

i`ve got everything you need. inc.

new power/audio lead to battery
new garmin clamp
ram arm, and fitting to handlebar clamp. £55. inc post.

I picked up the GS on Thursday and had a good look at the mounting options available. Seeing that I bought a BM tankbag as well I had to find a mounting point which would not be obscured by the enormous but useful tankbag.

I used the RAM mount in more or less the same spot as mouse - I am quite happy with the position but will probably get a shorter arm so the screen provides more weather protection.

While I was looking for lengths available on the RAM website I noticed that they appear to have produced a specific mount for the 1200. It looks like they have created a "U-bolt" like mounting specific for the shape of the bar above the clocks.

My employer is sending me to Chicago for 3 weeks in February so have decided to enquire over the pond as to whether this mount is available. Will try and get that and the shorter 1 3/4" arm over there. I will post the part number of the mounting should I be able to get it.

The standard U-bolt works OK but if I can get the right part at US prices I will certainly not decline.

Walter :)

>>> This the Migsel mount that's shown in this Forum and in the customer galleries > BMW section. Yes it has a RAM ball attached to give an anchor point. Plus a RAM-B-201-A and RAM-B-238 to attach onto Quest mount (RAM-HOL-GA15), 2610 (RAM-HOL-GA9) or onto the existing Garmin cradle from the kit supplied.

>>> Why???, RAM-B-201-A is in UK and ££ price is lower than before Xmas. If saving ££ money, suggest you look at RAM-B-149ZA ... why?, you got RAM-B-201-A and RAM-B-238 plus U-bolt RAM-B-231Z is an extra bit which can come in useful.

Hi Ram-man

I've had to hammer google to find pictures of the ram parts you listed in your post - even their website is not exactly user friendly.

Hopefully I've got it right - to me it looks as if RAM-B-231Z is a U-bolt mounting for smaller diameter bars and looks as if it is more suitable than the "standard" U-bolt mounting I've got. The one I have now I received with the bike mounting kit I ordered and the gap between the legs of the U "feels" too big for the bar above the clocks on the 1200. This is very much a subjective feeling as I am sure it will be perfectly fine - I would be happier with a smaller diameter mounting though.

Please correct me if I got the part number wrong.

Thanks

Walter

Thats it, I`ve just ordered a 2610 with universal RAM mount :thumb
Back to work to pay for it now :(

>> easier than that, Try a looking at www.ram-mount-uk.com then in any section go to accessories and B size 1" balls (coz, that's what you've got). Further on in customer galleries is the bike mount review pics for BMW Gser's et all. Beneath any RAM cradle image (large) is 19 mount suggestions.

>>The RAM-B-231Z has been shown attached in a recent well documented forum thread "RAM mount info required" started by Eddy802 which shows the U-bolt mount. This shoud reveal & expalin all . http://www.ukgser.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=34896

Thank you

Thank you RAM-man for the explanation - I've now (at last!!) got the picture as they say.

I somehow missed the thread where this was discussed - I am now happy that I can get the necessary parts here.

Just want to add that to me this is the best place to mount the GPS - none of the other solutions (I was looking at replicating the Motorrad Concepts bracket for example) offers the same flexibility of positioning the unit where it will not interfere with your view of the instruments while not being hidden, in my case, behind the massive BM tankbag or limiting the ability to adjust the screen. By placing the GPS right behind the screen you even get weather protection and can adjust the viewing angle when required.

Will order asap.

:)

The weather protection might be worse!. If there's any turbulence behind the screen it could dump more rather than less water onto the GPS. I've not experimented yet, but if it's anything like the 1150 screen:eek:

I've had mine behind the screen/above the clocks since May......used in the very worst weather conditions imaginable.....

GPS stays reasonably dry, protected from the worst, but then again, it is waterproof.............. :D

Cheers
