Silly me trying to move from a tried & trusty SPIII to a 2610, eh? Thought it would just be a case of bunging in the old v8 CD, typing the numbers in and downloading the old mapperoonies.

Problem is, me CD drive's b***d & I can't load v8.

Ok, still got v7 on there, simply download those.

And thats where I started to lose it..

So, why can't I upload v7 maps onto a spanking new 2610 (with new 2gig card, too. Money? Loaded me..) without messages telling me the maps are unlocked for the new unit?

Tried bunging in all the unlock codes I've got in two boxes of Garmin's finest, all to no avail.

Aaaaaagh!!!!

Any ideas, folks?

You need to get a new unlock code for the 2610.

Each City Nav version can be unlocked for 2 units, so long as you've only unlocked once for the SPIII a free unlock code can be obtained from Garmin.

Could your v8 problem be the disk is a DVD and not a CD-ROM :nenau

Just to emphasise that point in Andy's answer. You can't just bung in unlock codes that you happen to have ....

Things are getting desperate around the vicarage just now - its only seven days and counting before foreign shores beckon, and with France, Belgium & Spain to navigate through, to say I'm getting a little stressed is an understatement..:spitfire

Just how long do Garmin take to respond to the request?

And 'just in case', which alternative GPS would I be able to buy at short notice that already has European maps loaded?:nenau

Make sure you have an Internet connection, then in Mapsource go to Utilities > Unlock Maps.

A wizard starts and you need to chose the second option 'No, I need to get a 25-character unlock code'. This is because you are unlocking a second Garmin unit.

If you don't already have a Garmin account, create one. Then after sticking in your address details, press 'next' and on that screen select 'unlock additional Garmin unit'.

I can't tell you the final step as I've already unlocked two Garmins, but it should be straightforward.

Sounds good, Tim, but I've already done all that. I've got an unlock code associated with the 2610 (and the SPIII & GPSV I had originally), and I've typed it in to everything I can, be it MapSource or unit, but it still tells me all the maps are locked.

I could cheerfully sob..
