Learning how to route 2610. Notes on site are usefull. I use the 2610 mainly by planning the route on the laptop, as this takes you on the smallest of roads exactly where you want to go. The problem I cant cure is that if I'm on a planned route and then leave to do some exploring the unit wants to take me back to the waypoint at which I left the route, insted of the nearest waypoint on the route. The point I left could be 70 miles away and the next nearest 2 miles away. Is there a setting to correct this? or is it a Zumo? Thanks.

Have you set the waypoint as a Via point? If you have, its only doing what you've asked it to. :thumb

you could turn off the recalculate when off route function, and then just manually head back towards the route as convenient, using the screen for guidance.

the unit will pick up the route again when you get near.

Dont know, the way I have planned a route so far was to draw it on the map with the route tool---I think this creates way points not via points.

2610's and SP3's both have three goes at getting you back to your original route. Irrespective of whether it's planned on the GPS or the PC. Is this what you're seeing?

I've only done quickest/ shortest on the machine itself all specific routes were planned on the laptop. Taff may be right, I've looked at the mapsource on the laptop and planned a trial route using the route tool, this recorded via points, and not way points. Done the same route with the waypoint tool and as the name says it records waypoints. This takes much longer as an additional window pops up each waypoint. Is there a way to set the route tool to record waypoints and not via points. If I get it sorted I'll try a route deviate from it and see what happens. Thanks everyone!

As above, turn off autorouting. When you want to get back on your route, select a point at which you want to intercept and route to that. Just before you get to the end of the intersection, turn back to the original route and you will get instructions from that point on.
