2610 Routing help. Please ?

It's late, it's been a long day and I getting frustrated with Mapsource....

I am trying to plot a route form Ashford in Kent to Biar in Spain, not a difciult route, but I want to use teh Newhaven-Dieppe ferry, not the Dover-Calais one.

Have entered bothe Newhaven and Dieppe as waypoints, but Mapsource just plots a circular route around kent and Sussex to take me to Newhaven, then back to Dover, and a similar detour in France to go to Dieppe. Is there a way to force mapsource to use the Newhaven-Dieppe ferry?

Make two routes, one to Newhaven and another from Dieppe to your destination.

Load the 2nd route up when your on the ferry, you won't need to navigate while at sea, the Captain does that

Apart from breaking thbe route up like that, is there any other setting that can be used?

In this particular instance it is clear the Garmin choice is not right. From Ashford it takes me a direct westerly route to Newhaven, but then carries on past Newhaven towards Brighton, then heads north to pick up the M25, then M20 to bring me south-east back through Ashford to catch the ferry at Dover. Reversing the route used to get to Newhaven would have been much quicker than the circumnavigation of the South-East of England that Garmin suggests.

My concern is that I have some settings on that prevents the use of a ferry, and ensures that return routes use a different logic than that used to get somewhere. This is not the first time that the route hoem has varied immensely from the route to a destination...

Whilst I can see the recent abberrations as being obviously wrong due to local knowledge, when it comes to planning trips to unfamiliar regions I am concerned about the Garmin choices ....

Go to Edit, select Preferences and select the Routing tab.

Make sure ferries isn't ticked........

Tried putting via points on the ferry route?

Without knowing every setting you've got in routeing preferences I'd guess you've asked for quickest route. In which case, Mapsource is only doing what it's being asked

Just tried a route and the only way I can get Mapsource to route using the Newhaven - Dieppe ferry is to create a waypoint with the Flag Tool on the dotted line going between them in the channel

Shortest instead of quickest

Road selection on the second mark from the left.

Et voila!

BTW on the road selection but third from the left ie three marks from fully prefering highways and it goes via Calais etc.
