yep, I tried to find an answer, as a last resort, in the manual:spitfire

page 43, it says...."Speed, your rate of travel, which can be displayed in miles or kilometers per hour"

and also page 42 "create your own customized (sic) data tabs"

BUT

the option to switch from miles to kilometers is not there???

so, can it be done, at all, and if so how??

:o

You need to go into "Settings" - "General" - "Units of Measure" then either select "Statute", "Metric" or "Custom".

Cheers

Mark

I never look at the bike speedo, always the digital display on the 2610.
Set on MPH when in the UK and set on Metric the rest of the time.

im the same, use the gps to check speed on bike or in car!change settings at border crossings when necessary

Okay, hers's one for ya.

When I have my SP111 in the car and speedo says I am traveling at 80mph, the gps says it's only 70mph,,,,BUT if I am traveling towards those "Speed warning signs" that flash to remind you the speed you should be travelling at, with 40mph on speedo and the speed should be 40mph, according to the sign I am travelling OVER the limit.

Can anyone understand what I just wrote.??

Sort of. The GPS unit takes readings over distance and calculates your speed by the time taken to cover the known distance. Your speedo works on a very small version of the same priniciple, either by mechanical or electronic sensing. But manufacturers of speedometers design in a decreasing reading ratio. This is logarithmic, not linear, i.e. not on a scale that climbs by so many percent per 10 MPH for example, but rather from very small errors at low road speed to quite high errors at higher road speeds.

So, although the GPS may appear to be more "accurate", atmospheric conditions, sighting of enough satellites to give constant accurate triangulations, and not having up to date software can all combine to give false readings, sufficient enough to lull you into believing that you are travelling within the posted limit.

If you rely on your GPS to tell you how fast you are going rather than your speedo and get a ticket off a vending machine Gatso, or one of the increasing number of "neighbourhood safety partnerships" in their WRVS vans, tough poop! The magistrate will fine your arse if you appeal.

As long as you know.....:aidan
