under one of the 'screen options' settings you can recalibrate the touch screen
sorry can't remember exactly where, but I recall it's on the same screen where you adjust the screen brightness & contrast - might be 'display options'?
Do you have the remote enabled? ISTR that the 2610 suffers from confusion when in bright conditions when it is. ISTR that there's an option in the menu to disable it but maybe try covering the little IR window to the left of the screen with a spare thumb/finger first and see if that improves matters.
