Well, after all today's fun in setting up the registration........

Many thanks to Whatton for his idiot guides to waypoints, routes and transferring maps to the unit. :thumb2

I thought that once I'd selected the mapping to transfer to the unit then I'd be able to follow the test routes I'd set up in the demonstrator mode.

I go into route, select it from the list, it then says

"this route does not match the available maps, do you want to recalculate?"

If I do recalculate then for some reason all the routes want to start in northern Taiwan and say 6050 miles to next turn, :nenau which would then lead me to the intended first turn of my journey.

If I do not recalculate it says "route calculation error: No roads near starting point" (I imagine this is as I have no detailed mapping for Taiwan - the transferred mapping for UK is on the GPS btw.)

I know quite a few people must have gone down the 2610 route so I'm looking for any crumbs of comfort

Any advice?

thanks

thanks John,

that seems to have got me out of Taiwan. It still seems unable to follow the route I set up in mapsource and transferred. It says the mapping doesn't match and that it wants to recalculate over open ground in straight lines. also after the final waymark before the destination it justs gives up and doesn't even give a route description. :(

I think I've suddenly turned from one of those people who just knows how things operate into a thundering old buffoon who can't put a video in and press play. :rob

I'll be taking time off work to sit at home calling Garmin at this rate.

cheers :beerjug:

Don't mean to sound funny, but you have downloaded maps as well haven't you? That sounds like a message I had a few years ago, when I'd downloaded some routes, but hadn't selected ALL the maps that were needed for those routes. Put simply, the route may be over an area that doesn't have the detailed maps.

My guess is that if you right click on a route and choose the "Select Maps Around Route" option, and download those maps as well as the route and waypoints the message will go away. :thumb

it's ok Taff

No worries and thanks for the suggestion but I have transferred the maps by following Whatton's tutorial, including checking that box.

Actually, the way to transfer the maps by 'save to' as identified by the 2610 instructions wasn't an option on mapsource, so I chose to follow Whatton's 'how to'.

I followed the process, clicking the sections of map which went pink and were listed in the dropdown, up to just under the 128Mb limit, then clicked the box you mention and then the 'transfer to' icon.

As I said the mapping for the areas I've transferred is the proper detailed stuff down to street level and with points of interest, the unit just says the routes don't match the mapping so it asks to recalculate. :nenau

Hi there Summerland... it was good to meet you both at Rainbow Saturday :thumb

If the map version on your computer is not the same as in the GPS you may get that same problem

Hopefully you're sorted by now :bounce1

Hi Mick

good to meet you on Saturday. I'm still ploughing through the introductory joys of GPS.:bounce1

I can certainly see why so many people spend so much money chopping/changing/adding to their GS.

God help me when the accessory catalogues start dropping on the mat.
"Must do something about the buffeting" for a start - and I've never had a bike with a screen before.
