I have a 2610 that I have been happily using on an old laptop that runs XP.
I now have a new laptop that runs on Vista. I have tried to load the City navigator and Mapsource soft ware and have a problem. After, what I think is a succesful installation, upon clicking on the Mapsource Icon, I get the message 'Problem with Mapsource Registry, please reinstall and start again'.

Well I have reinstalled and started again 10 times today and still get the same message.

Any suggestions before I throw the software and GPS in the skip!

Called Garmin at 0845 this morning, kept on hold for 2 Hours!! Thankgod its a freephone number. When I finally got someone to answer the phone, thy refused to talk me through the 'problem' but said they would send me an e-mail as to what I was doing wrong.

Its 1425 and no e-mail recieved.

I am not happy.

I am not impressed with Garmin support.

Did you do a complete uninstall before you tried to load it again?

Yes I have done a complete uninstall, disabled all anti-virus and reformatted my computer, still get the same problem.
It works on an old laptop that runs ME, but that laptop has a broken case and modem.

Steve.

It sounds like you need to install an updated version of the mapsource application from Garmins website that is compatible with Vista (59.65MB Download) Ver 6.14.1.

The program should be free to download and install IIRC providing you already own an earlier version of mapsource, it's the maps themselves that cost the money.

Maybe you should have tried hanging up at 09:15 and redialing?

I've found them to be excellent, apart from Mondays which they even tell you - is a very busy day for them.

You need a later version of mapsoursce available as a free download from the Garmin website as Pukmeister says. Run your instal disc then your Mapsource upgrade programme then continue to load later map cds/ dvds
Garmin support is second to none.

Right i'd suggest trying this

I think the next step is to Reinstall the mapping and delete the registry keys from your system. WARNING: Please be aware that when in the registry you must not touch any other keys or folders in the registry other than the ones stated below. Doing so could cause damage to computers operating system, potentially rendering it unusable. I would advice contacting an administrator for assistance if you are unsure with the instructions.

1. Uninstall MapSource using the Windows Add/Remove Program utility found in Control Panel. Windows vista select control panel home>programs>uninstall a programme.

2. Go to Registry Editor (found in Run by typing regedit then pressing OK.

Windows vista select the windows logo(bottom left) and type "regedit" without the quotes in the start search option box. Remove the GARMIN keys found under the software key in both HKEY Current Users and HKEY Local Machine (may not be in HKEY Local Machine but still check)

3. Re-boot computer letting harddrive(s) completely shutdown and then manual turn the computer back on after 30 secs.

4. Reinstall MapSource to a new directory on the harddrive (i.e., c:\mapsource)

5. Repeat step 3.

6. Install current MapSource update, available for download from the Support section of our website http://www.garmin.com/support/download.jsp

7. Re-boot computer letting harddrive(s) completely shutdown and then manual turn the computer back on after 30 secs.

8. Run MapSource!

Just upgrade your currently installed version of MapSource with the latest avaiable from Garmin - :thumb
