Was having some difficulty transfering maps onto to a cheap 2 GB CF card i.e. it would not do it :spitfire

Then borrowed a card reader of a mate and tried loading the maps onto the CF card via the card reader instead of in the 2610. Maps loaded no problem and a lot quicker than loading them onto the CF card when in the sat nav.

Then put the CF card back into the 2610 and every thing works just fine :D

Worth trying if you are having problems transfering maps or want to see if it will speed up the process :thumb

I put a post up this evening asking for help as my computor was shutting down every time I tried to transfer my maps to the garmin so will try your tip Paul, thanks.

The same thing happened to me when I attached my external hard drive, but that was the 'Brontok' virus and I had to reinstall everything:(

When I try to send maps, I get 'cannot find device', on further investigation I get the fact that a file 'gmnusb.sys' cannot be found. I've looked for it and cannot find it myself either.:(

Bit of background...I don't have a DVD drive on my computer, so a friend downloaded it to a portable hard drive, as well as copying it to 3 CDs. It would appear that this file didn't make it across somewhere. I can get hold of a card reader to try the direct to card, but I suspect that nothing is making it to the USB port of the computer. ???????

I suppose this means I'll have to buy a DVD drive for my computer, which knocks out £40 of the savings I made. Then take the 'puter into work for a techie to fit. (Yes, I am a total numptie, computer wise )

try a mapsource update it normally updates the usb drivers. (help-check for updates) in the mapsource program, worth a try first. but others may have a better solution.

Nice idea paul but how do you load on to the cf card is it just cut and paste. My problem is with new 2gig card (sandisk)it takes well over an hour to try and load all of europe and then stops transfering.I have down loaded england ok but it seems to be the larger files it does not like? Has anyone had the same problem?

I just put the CF card into the card reader and transfered the maps as if you where downloading them normaly straight into the 2610. Without the sat nav conected to the computer Map Sourse should find the card reader automatically instead of the Sat Nav unit. That's how it worked for me :thumb
