Mates 2610 is giving a little problem When he tries to type in the house number and street name of the place he wants to go to it wont let him. The letters on the screen are only faint and wont type in. Whats happened here ? All other functions are working fine. Thanks.

it predicts the next letters of the word you are trying to type. ie if you are typing the word "road" there are only so many letters that are compatible after the 'R' so letters like 'M' will be feint to help you find the right letter faster. maybe he's spelling the word wrong or the unit isnt aware of the road hes trying to enter if its an odd spelling?

There are now only one or two letters available, the others are not on the screen anymore. They are just feint (faint) but not available to type in.

What difference will that make?

The unit will read addresses off the maps - obviously if there are no maps downloaded, then there's nothing to find. What have you changed to get these "two letters available"?

IIWY I would firstly make sure that there are maps downloaded to the unit (ie you have street level detail and not just the basemap) then try finding a common street name eg Water St, or High Street. My guess is you're spelling something wrong.

If I understand Luke Scott correctly, I'm getting the same problem.

I've sucessfully installed City Navigator v9 maps in that they load OK when I boot up the 2610 and cam be read OK.
I've got the latest version of Mapsource installed v.6.12.2
I've got the latest software update on my 2610 v4.80

Here's the problem :

Select Find
Select Addresses

Brings up a box which says "Find Address" and three options below it :
Limit to
Number
Street

If I select Limit to, it brings up a sub box of :
<No Limit>
Enter a City
Enter a Postal Code

All OK so far, HOWEVER :
If I select either Enter a City or Enter a Postal Code, I USED to get the QWERTY keyboard (A-Z) or 0-9 for House Number but the QWERTY keyboard remains dimmed and you can't select any letters ....... other than the OK button which then brings up a blank list of cities! :nenau :nenau

If I select anything else other than Address it seems OK including activating the QWERTY keyboard if I want to use the Filters.

What d'ya reckon? :nenau

Problem sorted! It was the c/f card. I was able to download all 600 maps from CN v9 (2.2Gb) on to my 4Gb c/f card but the Find Address function wouldn't work.

The solution (after much messing about) was to ensure that I didn't exceed 2Gb of maps on the card. So long as I kept below 2gb the Find Address feature worked. Hope this helps! :thumb

New release too! Strange that my Garmin webupdater didn't pick it up.
Thanks Terayon, I'll give it a go! :thumb

Downloaded v6.12.3, spent another 4 hours or more transferring the entire map set (2.2Gb) to my 4Gb C/f card and ........
...... back to square one! :spitfire

Sent an email to Garmin Support on 6th April outlining my problem.

Got a reply on 13th April ..... see below for my response!

Hello,

I do have a further question - see below.

I don't understand your answer because there doesn't appear to be one (see
below)
Where is it? What is the solution? Are you able to help me or not?
I've since upgraded my Mapsource to version 6.12.3 and I still have the
problem.

Regards,
Peter
