Yes, very different, far more so than the difference between American English and British English.

The first language I learned was Canadian French. Then English, then much later, French as spoken in Western Switzerland. Now, if I go to Quebec, people have difficulty understanding me.

The written language is the same everywhere, but the pronunciation varies a great deal. Also, many of the nouns are different - sort of along the line of lift -elevator, dual carrigeway - expressway.

Yup - I've taken the tape off and not had the "three beeps & into zoom mode" since switching off the RC. Mind you, it was much more noticable during the summer (sun intensity?), so still keeping half an eye on it.

I just upgraded my Navigator II Plus off the BMW site. It was a pretty easy upgrade. I took the tape off the GPS!! Now I need to see if it works on the road. . . . but its cloudy today.

Probably an obvious question, but just making sure - does each new sotware upgrade include earlier upgrades, for example if I upgrade from 4.20 to 4.50, it'll include 4.30 and 4.40?

Now, please bear in mind that I can't bear to read instructions!
Is it possible to get my 2610 to give verbal instuctions earlier.
Sometimes when driving or riding, there is very little time to make a lane change.

Yes. You can upgrade from 1.00 to 4.40 and be assured you won't miss a thing. This policy applies to all Garmin GPSRs.

The only thing you have to watch for now - and this is new - is with the latest generation of 'text to speech' GPSRs such as the 2720 and 7200, the upgrades for the voice are downloaded independently of the operating system downloads for the GPSR itself. There are two 'voices' for each language, one is the basic voice that just reads directions such as "In 100 feet, turn left", and the other is the TTS (text to speech) voice, which pronounces names, for example, "In 100 feet, turn left on Main Street."

The basic voice is still included in the operating system download package, but updates to the TTS voice need to be downloaded seperatly. A helpful hint: TTS voices all have a 'name' associated with the voice, and you will see this name on the download page. For example, the American English TTS voice is called 'Jill', and this is a totally different software load than the British English voice, which has another name.

All this stuff about TTS voices only applies to the newest generation of GPSRs that will pronounce street names.

Something else I forgot to mention: If you are using a GTM 10 or GTM 11 FM Traffic Receiver to download traffic information to a 2720 or a 7200, the software updates for the GTM are embedded in the software updates for the GPSR. In other words, don't worry about having to update the GTM, that will happen automatically the first time you plug it into the GPSR after you have updated the GPSR software.
