Having recently bought a 2720 unit it is now installed on the 1200. I ordered the unit with the additional combined power and audio lead. Not quite sure why Garmin have put the audio pigtail at the GPS end of the lead ?
Anyway, its powered up and doing its stuff.

My problem is there is no audio via the autocom unit. Not having the original paperwork, I'm assuming the Autocom Active 7 Sport I have fitted can handle GPS audio? It has both phone and music aux sockets so I assuming either of these would take the GPS input.
Am I missing something here or does anyone out there have the answers please? My MP3 player works fine through autocom.
Any guidance welcomed.
Thanks in anticipation of the fix......

Hi ColBol,
The instruction for your Active-7 Smart are here.
http://www.autocom.co.uk/pdf/Active_7_Smart_3C52F9.pdf

You can plug the GPS audio into the phone socket.
You should pick up part 1561, a 2-metre lead which will go from the pigtail at the GPS end back to the Autocom unit, and then plug this into input A on part 1282 before plugging into the phone socket on the Autocom.
You need part 1282 because your GPS is bike- rather than battery-powered powered and this often induces unwanted hum.

p.m me if you want further information.

2720 Autocom

Hi John. Thanks for the advice. I have Part No 1294, a 2.5 mono to 3.5m stereo lead. Does that differ from the Part you suggested. Also, what is Part 1282? What does that do and where does that fit?

A earlier thread recommends cutting the pigtail end off and soldering both leads at the GPS end to overcome poor connections.

2720 audio connections

John. From a previous thread:

There seems to be a problem with compatibility between all the 2.5mm plugs on Autocom cables and (an admittedly small sample of) other plugs I've tried in the Garmin audio socket that's part of the 26xx/27xx/28xx harness. When new, my example was fine but in a matter of a couple of months (without me pulling the plug in and out!) it required that I pull the pull the plug slightly out of the socket to get a reliable contact. It felt as though the connector to the "live" end of the jack plug in the Garmin socket had "lost it's spring" for want of a better description.

As I have no need to disconnect the audio feed I simply cut off both the Garmin socket and the Autocom plug and soldered the connections which I then protected with heatshrink tubing. No more intermittent sound from my 2720

Hi ColBol,
Autocom have renumbered the part (again!) - it is indeed now #1294.
If you plug in 1294 and you get a crackle through the audio then you have got the extremely common ground loop problem with bike-powered accessories going into a bike-powered Autocom. Part 1282 is a short junction box containing an isolating transformer that plugs between 1294 and the control unit.
hope this helps.
I have wrapped the pigtail joint with self-amalgamating tape to keep moisture out - and that's all.
