Has anyone experienced their Streetpilot "freezing" up when in use i.e. the cursor and image lock in one position with no further voice prompts? It appears to clear by switching the unit off and then back on again (the time honoured repair for all IT!), which is both time consuming and irritating when in traffic. Is there an underlying fault, am I doing something wrong when inputting routes and/or waypoints, etc? Any advice as to how to rectify the glitch would be appreciated or is it something which I have to live with?

What exactly are you doing? are you touching the screen or pressing a button? what function are you trying use etc, need more info. Are you under heavy tree or building cover when it locks up, does it just lock up of its own accord. Does the cursor remain steady or flick about on the screen. How is the unit powered.

I have had this on rare occasions. It is not a result of touching anything but seems to happen in built up areas sometimes. I assumed it got confused with sat coverage and, as you said, turning it off and on seems the solution but it is a pain when it happens near a turn.

Ditto - I've encountered this with my SP2720 occasionally too. It always seems to do it at the most inopportune moments like on the approach to multiple turns, but in reality it's also happened immediately after a turn but before the "continue on xxx for yyy miles" voice prompt. I did wonder about satellite reception issues, but there seems to be no obvious pattern to support that like being under trees or around tall buildings.

Like others I've found that it recovers if I turn it off and on again. It never used to do this when I first owned it and I suspect that it's a problem that was introduced with one of the many unit software upgrades, but frankly I can't remember which one :(

Unfortunately it would appear I am not the only one to suffer this malfunction.

The unit is powered by a hardwired connection to the machine. This occurs without any assistance from me, in that I am not touching the screen or control buttons and the cursor and map lock rigid on the screen.
Having read the other posts I am uncertain whether this only happens when I am within a built up area or if that is when it is most noticeable to me.

I have a Nav 3 based on the 2720 and it does the same thing for no apparentent reason but generally fairly close to home.

I don't know if it applies to the 2720 but the 2610 suffered from asimilar problew which was resolved by turning off the remote control function.

It may be worth a try? :nenau

Freezing

I've lost sat reception under heavy tree cover but the unit didnt lock up? did it happen at a particularly complex junction or just on a normal turn etc probably worth mailing garmin if other people are having the same problem, could well be a software issue following an update as suggested.

I don't think it's caused by a software update, mine has done it occasionally over the last two years but not often enough for me to be bothered to check with Garmin.

There does not seem to be any noticable theme although it seems to be in town but that my not be relevent. As I have had it three or four times in one day and then no problem for months I wonder if a particular combination of satellite positions can cause a calculation that it can't complete so it crashes. A bit like on a PC where it is necessary to avoid a possible "divide by zero" situation which is an impossible sum to resolve so it crashes the PC.
