Hi

Was out over the weekend with a new 2720. Seems a great bit of kit but had problems with the sound with it being loud one minute and quiet the next. Has anyone else experienced this. If not must be the Autocom.

Might be worth checking the VOX setting...if it's too low the wind will activate the mic and cut the volume in half.......Then again you may already know that... :o

My guess is that the problem lies with the Autocomm - I have never, every had a problem with the sound on the Garmin GPSRs. I also noticed in another thread that Burnie mentioned that the audio out jack on the 27xx is a mono jack, and if you use a stereo plug when you plug into it, you might not get optimum performance from it because the pins don't line up correctly.

Thanks for the advice. It happened today with the phone as well, no volume, which ties it down to the Autocom I think

2720 -autocom -silent

On a trip to france this month my headst started making an intermittant hissing noise and eventually i lost all sound. i tried plugging in to the pillion jack and checked the audio cable from the garmin to the autocom and all seemed ok. can anyone offer advise please :(

garmin

you only need a sat nav if you know where you are going, whats the point? :thumb

The male connector that I plugged into the Garmin audio female connector was a bit loose and I had the same intermittent problem. I found a better (longer) male connector in my toolbox and soldered that on instead. It now connects with a click and is fine. I think you may find this problem with some proprietry cables.

There seems to be a problem with compatibility between all the 2.5mm plugs on Autocom cables and (an admittedly small sample of) other plugs I've tried in the Garmin audio socket that's part of the 26xx/27xx/28xx harness. When new, my example was fine but in a matter of a couple of months (without me pulling the plug in and out!) it required that I pull the pull the plug slightly out of the socket to get a reliable contact. It felt as though the connector to the "live" end of the jack plug in the Garmin socket had "lost it's spring" for want of a better description.

As I have no need to disconnect the audio feed I simply cut off both the Garmin socket and the Autocom plug and soldered the connections which I then protected with heatshrink tubing. No more intermittent sound from my 2720 :clap
