Hi guys,

Have a year old 2720 with City Nav Europe V8 installed from new. Unit now reminds me on start up to update mapping and, after faffing about last week in Bristol city centre on 'new roads' not indicated on V8 it has a point.
The time has come... oh dear...

Have read Whattons very informed threads on upgrading but, as I have a Mac this looks problematic as Garmin do not properly speak Mac yet. The process appears to not be straightforward even with a PC judging by the postings on the 'upgrading sticky'.

I have just tried to register with Garmin and have had my password rejected 3 times for having punctuation in it... it hasn't... :spitfire.
So, rotating on the spot at just step one... :blast

It occurs to me that...

A:
Garmin may well do this if asked..?? Anyone here know??

B:
There may well be a Garmin Guru here who has a PC, is CityNav/Mapsource literate and who would undertake a bit of freelance work...??

Thoughts anyone...?

I thank you...

Charlie

If your Mac is Intel-based, then Boot Camp (free) should sort you, provided you have a full copy of Windows.

Regarding upgrade snags, it's probably easiest to talk directly to Garmin Tech support. I reckon I know my way around Mapsource/Garmin, but still have to phone them every once in a while as I lose/forget/b*gg*r up my login info.

Hi Chas

I knew someone would suggest the Bootcamp option!! I did use to use Virtual PC/Windows a few years back and was not impressed so it's not a route that I like the sound of.

I run a Powerbook G4 which I don't think is the Intel based chip, but I'll find out.

I take it that you use the Bootcamp/Windows set up to be able to work with Mapsource?
Does it work for you or is it problematic??

Garmin are very helpful when you finally get through, but I have had to wait at least 40 minutes before though...

'Fraid it's not Charlie - you're not on an Intel chip on yours. :(

I have a vested interest here - need a new GPS and currently researching the best options. Really want a Garmin, but don't fancy upgrading the trusty 'copywriter special' 12" powerbook...

Know the feeling, I'm on my second 12", (dropped a drink on the first one :blast) They are excellent though, travel well too!

But compatability with Garmin... hmmm.

I have read on here of one or two folk getting a PC World cheapie just for the GPS stuff...

Maybe the simplest solution if no Garmin Guru emerges... :augie
