Hi, just looking at GPS and wondered what people who had used both 2D (eg quest) and 3D maps (eg 2720 / rider) thought was the clearest.

Obviusly i appreciate that loking at the screen is more likely to make me ride into a wall / off cliff / under bus....and i will be mainly using the voice instructions, but for a quick glance which system is easier, or does it not make a lot of difference?

Cheers

Dave

Doesn't make much difference in my view - 3D is a bit lost on a small screen. BTW I was at Manchester Uni IVP - Immersive Visual Presentation center a coupel of months ago - we sat in a regular room, put on very clever glasses that blank and open each lens alternatley at high speed - then were treated to a 3D dispaly like I have never seen - we were actually immersed in the image - in one example inside a section of the earth's crust - and in another inside the unopened sarcophagus of an Egyptian mummy. The images were rotating and people in the room were reaching out to touchthe surfaces. Data sets from sampling techniqes had been analysed and interpolated and the clever software, specs and human brain did the rest. (The mummy had been MRI scanned at the local hospital.)

HD Plasma? - old hat!!! :clap

Personally, I prefer the 3D perspective. I use a BMW Navigator both on bike and in car (which is 2D). My wife has a portable Navman unit, which has a 3D perspective which I much prefer. I understand that the next BMW Navigator unit will offer a 3D perspective.
