Andy Malton’s old bike with some bits added from above. Brilliant bike and a real head turner:drool Didn’t have the heart to change it too much or thrash it so sold it to a mate – should have kept this one:blast (as should Andy:blast:blast)

I remember seeing each one of those over the years...

Andy's was the one that made me want alloys on mine - that, plus the nasty habit it developed of falling over whenever I went trail riding on it

Thanks for rolling back the years, there :thumb2

Thanks for that:thumb

I remember Andy Malton's bike, top machine

Rode to Switzerland with him:thumb

Cheers for that :thumb

I think you got it right with MkIII :) , thats what I've got in my head to do with my GSA, quite like that MKIII front mudguard, sets the front off nicely

I remember both Adam and Andy Malton when i joined a couple of GS rideouts in about 05 on my ZX6 when i first was interested in getting a GS.

I cant remember if it was Mk 1 but recall a discussion about a new gear box being fitted

First person i ever saw wheelie a GS was Dr Alf ............ i was laughing my head off :thumb2

Which engine mods where the best, ive fitted a y piece, k&n, bb power chip, big air intake, cut down inlet manifolds, what do you recommend to do next? Bike is used all year around for everything!

Thanks all:thumb

The blue top box does have some stories to tell eh Mick – like the time that it fell off whilst trail riding up a very steep hill whilst out with the big trail bike club. It rolled down the hill for about 300m causing my fellow riders to dive for cover:) Who needs aluminium luggage:thumb

Engine mods – by far the biggest gain came from the engine work. Unfortunately I had the whole lot done in one go – gas flowing, compression raised and cams so it’s hard to tell specifically where the gain came from. Dyno showed 81bhp at the rear wheel before and 97bhp afterwards. Yet to get the PCIII set up properly so may even break the 100BHP barrier once complete:) PM me if you want more info – happy to talk:)

Mileage and failures on each bike:

MkI: Miles when sold – 60,000 miles. Gearbox failed, replaced clutch, snapped drive shaft, pivot bearings on final drive, clutch slave cylinder failed.

MkII: Miles when sold – 35,000 miles. Nothing went wrong:)

MKIII: 70,000 miles – Clutch replaced, clutch slave cylinder failed, final drive failed.

Here's a good question when riding "Sensibly" as in Normal as in not flattening hump backs

Did you see an general increase in MPG with all the mods? Whilst not wringing the throttle to the stops I mean :aidan :aidan

I have a theory that a Tuned motor if ridden "sensibly" will outdo a tsandard motor on MPGs but once you wring it to the stops will guzzle

Any thoughts?

I have no idea - due to using an R1100s front wheel I haven’t had a speedo on any of the bikes. I just fill up the tank when the light comes on:) I agree in principle that a tuned motor should return better mpg if driven\ridden with economy in mind. Certainly many mapped TDI owners report an increase in mpg. My only benchmark has been riding with a mate on a standard(ish) 1150, when on tour I seem to use slightly more fuel than him but not excessive amounts. I do tend to use all of the performance when possible and only really ride in economy mode when the fuel light is on the next petrol station is a long way away:augie:)

waves

having just re-subscribed and getting another gs again im aware its an old thread

fond memories of mk3 .. although its not technically a gs , thats if its the same bike :) :D

carefully run in with 50k of dispatching !
