I'll guess apart from swapping around needles and jets that it can't be hard to do.

But you'll need some sort of adapter, I guess as well, and is this expensive? And if I was looking for a 40 to 32mm adapter who'd sell them?

James Sherlock fitted mine with the very 'latest' R100RT monolever carbs and fully rebuilt/jetted to suit etc
Havn't seen the bike properly for a few weeks so can't post a piccie !

So you can go up as well as down in carbs. Could see the logic of a sleeve for a 40 to take it to a 32mm. I guess the rubber pipes either side of the carb can be adjusted to fit?

always wanted to dump my bings and fit Dellortos - like on my Guzzi.
just discovered (a little too late, a certain Tosser got there first :blast) theres a way to do it :)

why?
the Guzzi does nigh on 50mpg EVERYwhere.
the R100gs does about 33mpg in town / 50+ out of town.
i spend a lot of time in town.

go on, tell me it was a daft idea anyhow.

small is beautiful? :D

having had and fiddled, fettled, fecked about with and despaired of the mpg of
2 x R65's and an R80/7 - i didnt even bother with the R100gs.

my first boxer - an old R65;
i spent a lot of time and a bit of money trying to figure out WTF i got such poxy mpg:nenau

all i can put it down to is the bings, coz i got obsessive about the topic and did AbSoFeckinLutely EveryFeckinThing i could to improve it....

nuffink worked - still consistently, like the other R65 and the R80/7 gave crap mpg in town and wonderful mpg out of town.

the Guzzi can be neglected and still gives great mpg.

so - my feeling is bing = yuck! / Dellorto = luverly.
i give up. :tears

Bing=brick with a hole drilled in it. I have the smaller bings on mine (80 with a seibenrock 100kit) and there is no diff in fuel consumption in comp with a normal 100cc. I also ride like Miss Marple and do not get outstanding mpg (or L/km). The new 800 twin and the old 650 singles are great on fuel but as they have a flywheel that weighs as much as a thimble they are not that nice to ride IMHO. I'd like another Guzzi but divorce is expensive.

Have you thought of trying mikunijap carbs they might be better dont know what size etc.I am concidering some for a R65 off roader i am trying to build (if i ever get the wire wheels etc).

Mikuni or Dellortos

in my case i thought of Dellortos as i have a bit of experience with them and know a Very Good Guzzi s/hand parts man in France that could sort me out with suitable carbs - just leaving (just?!) the jetting to sort out..
...if i ever retreived finger from arse long enough to Just Do It :blast
Apologies - i seem to have hijacked the thread.

Interesting hearing of alternatives. I guess with the Bing though you do have some starting point for needles / jets.

In reply to the 80 with the Sibenrock kit from Sylvester, IIRC the older airheads were set up much leaner and got nearer 60 mpg without trying, whereas the 100 is lucky to get over 40mpg :( I have one of the new 650 twins and it averages high 60 mpgs :)

When the perma frost has departed Cologne I will venture out to the garage to check on the carbs/jet sizes fitted to my trusty steed. I'm not sure of the year but its a wobble box R80. I don't know how standard the set up is. Does the seibenrock kit come with a change of jets? The exhaust is slightly sooty but plug colour is fine. Around town it would be cheaper to drive an aircraft carrier but obviously more difficult to park. You wouldn't need a top box though!!!!:thumb2

No big savings in the shops either. This time last year I bought a good goretex Alpinestars jacket for 100 euros and a set of Puma boots for 70 euros. Nothing cheap available yet:(
