90 ample, if you get hosed at security theyll whistle you through anyway as getting you on is far less hassle that getting your bag off.

Having said that, Id do maybe 2 hrs and build in a bit of flex, time to salivate over the Sleazy Jet Beeeehaches

If he is going through Philadelphia it will be with US Airways probably.

After their total F**k up when it snowed Xmas 2010 I now avoid Manchester Airport like the plague. I can forgive them struggling with wet snow that froze over everything.

I cant forgive this lot -

(1) Airport's refusal to give any useful information about delays
(2) Leaving de-icing machines running about on the apron while next to nothing was being used on the runway.
(3) Send our plane out to take off, then just as we were winding up the engines they closed the runway. The weather wasn't suddenly any worse so why did we ever go out?
(4) Announce the runway is clear then as our plane arrived to take off - Oh no the strip isnt wide enough so we had to go back a 2nd time.
(5) The following day, delayed flights and passengers were totally ignored (no gaps in flight schedule). The airline boss himself had to kick up a stink with the airport before our plane was given a flight slot.

We wasted 20 hours with the snow etc and another 7 hours being f**ked about because our flight had missed its slot - like is was our fault!

Its one thing to run an operation when its all working smoothly, but Manchester fell flat on its arse over 2" of snow. Then they compounded it all by incredibly poor management. God help everyone if something really serious happens. I'm not surprised O'Leary pulled out.

It was three years ago and I'm still livid.

Well, I hate to say this but that very nice flight (price wise) from Manchester has now evaporated so its back to Heathrow for now... but will keep scanning the airways

Heathrow Hotel
One small thing I found that maybe of use to others is: There's a Jurys Inn hotel about 400yds from Hatton Cross underground stop which is the last stop on the Piccadilly line before Heathrow. That Jurys Inn is also on the dedicated Airport bus routes so obviously rather handy (possible over night stop here, so as to catch an early flight, well you never knwow...).

BTW, we'll be going by train to the Airport, like as not

Every time I've been to America I've allowed 3 hours & by the time I've checked in, cleared secuity & had some breakfast it's usually pretty close to boarding time, just enough time to pick up a newspaper on the way to the gate.
Mind, I always, always get dragged to one side & asked additional security questions, suitcases opened & examined, more security questions, shoes off (in addition to the standard shoes off check) & then more questions.

I'm going that way again this summer & will once again allow 3 hours.

Lol. Wouldn't have thought so. But it's become a bit of a standing joke with the wife & my mates whenever we go abroad that it always happens.
Just got used to it now.

The point is if you're told 3 hours, assume that's right & if you do get caught up for any reason at least you have the time in hand.
