Myself and a work colleague have by chance been caught speeding in the last month. He was zapped with a hand held speed gun and was fined £60 and three points for doing 37 in a 30 zone, and given no option of a speed awareness course. I was pinged by a camera van doing 39 in a 30 zone have have thankfully been given the option of speed awareness course. What difference it makes I don't know but, he was told at the scene he would have no option but points and a fine.
To have chance of speed awareness course you must be in the following speed brackets!
30 zone ... up to 42mph
40 zone ... up to 53mph
50 zone ... up to 64mph
60 zone ... up to 75mph
70 zone ... up to 86mph
Once you have sent back your letter of admittance you should here back within a few weeks with your two options, points or course!
hope this helps!![]()
Many, many years ago, I was led to believe that if you were the first or last in a line of vehicles exceeding the limit they viewed it differently to being in the middle - so maybe it was some old copper with a gun and if your mate was the lead vehicle, he might have had a 'zero tolerance' approach that the non plod camera van operator does - less of a personal service if you like.
