Lots of fatalities down there Bob. Lastest was about 3 weeks ago, off-duty policeman killed whilst riding his VFR.

) the road is not technically demanding,it's surface is good-as are road markings etc. The fixed position speed camera Bob mentions is not the "flash" type,but a specs? type,it can be seen from a fair distance,but I dare say it will be supplemented occasionally by the deployment of a Talivan cash machine
In view of the likelihood of other motorists careering off the road at regular intervals-for no apparent reason I don't use the road as often as I used to,but when I do I deploy a man to run ahead of me with a red flag

I used to police the Vale especially Barry and the 5 mile lane.. The road is the kind of animal that lulls you into a false sense of security as prior to the Council imposin a 40 restriction it was an excellent road for riding/driving to the system....
Can't see the point in that camera though..... In my experience even the 40 restriction hasn't stopped the fools who ride it dangerously and will continue to do so........I knew Paul the Policeman who lost his life to the Lane and to this day struggle to understand why he died where he did....Exiting the Lane towards the A48 having ridden the so called more dangerous stretch OK...
