right had problems on friday with pushing start button and starter struggling to turn over so rushed out and got a new battery, same symptons:blast,

started to look at starter and found contacts corroded, cleaned them up and of she went starting almost immediately on the button.

rode her round on saturday (360 miles) stopping a few times she started well 7 times then did the same would not turn over thing. Tried again all fine for rest of day.

parked her up then when I went to start her yesterday she turned over fine but took about 5 seconds or so to catch. rode fine.

then the same today when I went to start her she took 5 seconds or so to catch

any pointers welcome,

probably going to order brush set then strip starter or can anyone give me a number to buy one at a motor factors so I can do it tomorrow.

Personally if its turning over and not firing I would be looking elsewhere than the starter. Have you checked for a spark at the plugs? What condition are they? Is fuel getting through?

I had a similar problem on my old 1150GS, it turned out to be the starter motor pulling to many amps and not leaving enough for the remaining electrics. It would eventually start.

Starting probs

Had the same problem this week with my 1150, turned out to be the plate that keeps the the grease from the internal gear cogs in the starter motor coming away and shorting out the starter, follow the starter motor thread in this section, luckily the plate was not to damaged and I managed to refit it problem solved hope this helps.

Mine was a bit sluggish a few months back. i thought that my 3 year old battery had expired early. Being a cheapskate, I left it plugged into my Optimate for a while, and the "problem" went.

Moral, go for the cheapest option first.
