550 thinks A5 MK is autobahn.....

I wanted to plot a route to Towcester from home (nr Bedford) and wanting to avoid the M1 I selected the 'avoidance' - 'autobahns', and expected it to route me up the A5, but no.... it suggested I went via Northampton - twice the distance

I tried the same route on a mates 660 and that was perfect, up the A5.

So - is the 550 crap or is the map crap and an update to the latest version will fix this?
I am currently using map Euro NT 2009 and I have the latest firmware.

I am impressed with the 660, many useful new features and half the time to pwr up but no buttons - madness!

ok, so the 660 has 'motorway' rather than 'autobahn', but how can I avoid just motorways?

Mapsource is ok, but:
1: I don't want to have to use mapsource each time I want to create a route.
2: Mapsource doesn't have aviodances like the 550 does.

One's in Germany the other is in the UK, what other difference is there for the GPS?

Maybe your GPS wants to be on the right side of the road

Motorway = just that.... a Motorway, and not Dual Carriage ways!

So have you tried the Road Selection Prefer Minor Roads/Prefer Highways slider?
