I intend to swap the carb on my 640 Adventure for a Keihin 39 FCR, which brings me to a question:

What's the TPS actually do? (I know what it stands for )
Has anybody disconnected theirs to see what happens?
I have had conflicting advice on whether to get the TPS for the Keihin carb or not (apparently they are slightly different fitments)
One says get the Kehin TPS and splice the wires into the original.
T'other says you don't need the TPS, throw it away.

Any ideas? Bit wary of just pulling the wire off mine to try it in case I fry something expensive.

Come over and have a look at mine or ride it even, if it goes like you'd want then copy it:)

Goes without saying. :D
Was intending to do that in the near future anyway, but have spoken to Rick about what he did, and now examining the options. The TPS has me a little confused though. :nenau
(PS yours has a 41 FCR by the way, with the Keihin TPS spliced onto the wires for the original. 41 gives better top end, 39 gives better bottom end. :augie)

Ok but for me, there's plenty enough bottom end for Wales:eek:...then I'm possibly either not used to it or a crap rider on it:thumb , perhaps I need to ride it somewhere open and fast:)

Fitted it!

Well that wasn't too hard.
The FCR has it's throttle cables on the opposite side, and at a different angle to the Mikuni, but with a little (ahem) persuasion, the original cables now fit. I have only recently put a longer set of cables on because of the damper, so was loathe to bin them.
The choke cable didn't look like a good option, so that was binned. I can just get to the choke button, if I stand on my head and dislocate my wrist, so just as well it's only needed once a day!
Both boots fitted perfectly and clamped up nicely.
The wiring for the TPS and all the emissions crap that is now redundant I've taped up and laid back over the rear of the carb out of the way.
The spagetti like tangle of breathers is a pain in the arse though, and may have to be rearranged in the future, but for now........

It works! :clap

I put in the biggest jets I had, which weren't much up on what it came with. As it had been on a DRZ, I thought it might be a bit lean for the 640, but if anything it seems a little rich on the bottom. Hope to get it on a dyno in the very near future to see what needs altering.

Main jet 165
Pilot jet 45
