Hello, I have owned my 04 plate Dakar for 6 months now and still get a big buzz every time I use the bike, Either for work or just out & about,

I was unlucky as needed an oxygen sensor replaced at 19k, Also I replaced my timing chain tensioner as good measure, But other than that no problems,

You may find the gear change very clunky, especially when selecting first gear, Goes in with a bang but this is normal on these bikes,

The BMW Rotax single cylinder engines sound very unfined compared to the Jap bikes but you get used to it after a while,

The problems I have read and heard about on these bikes are water pumps & head bearings failures, I have no trouble with either as yet,

Great bikes and very pleased so far,

:beerjug:

Forgot to mention, Give the bike a good service using good grade semi-synthetic oil. I use a 15w/50 grade and a original BMW oil filter kit.

Cheers Andy :thumb2

Have you had any luggage fitted to yours mate or can you recommend any? don't want to spend too much but probably looking at getting a back box initially and maybe some panniers for future travels ...

Roll on next week, last bike was a CBR600RR so it's a massive change for me :blast I've been assured I won't regret it!

Hello Jona, I don’t use any luggage bags or top box, I find them so expensive, I have been using a back pack from Argos for ages now, All I carry is my pack lunch for work or light shopping for the family, No complaints so far,
You will really notice a power difference from the Honda CBR to the BMW,
My last bike was a Suzuki GSX 600 and I notice a big power difference compared with the BMW, But love the high riding position on the BMW, No more wrist or back pains, Very nippy in town And loads of miles to the gallon,
Hope you enjoy the bike as much as I do, :beerjug:

Just a quickie, but if you are coming from a Jap 4 to a single its a massive differance, but a good differance. The singles like to be revved and not laboured so keep it above 3,000 rpm and you will be fine. Also I do mainly road miles so have swapped the engine sproket to one extra tooth and this allows a more relaxed 75-80mph cruising speed with no great loss in acceleration, and still returning 70 plus mpg enjoy ......:D

Cheers Biffa, really looking forward to this change!

Done a better deal now and found an 06 with ABS for same price as I was paying for the 04 :D Plus it already has a BMW back box for the commute :thumb2

I'll get some pics up when I collect it...

Been to the coast today and added over 200 miles to my new toy! 2 stops at willoughby woods and umpteen cups of coffee .. fish n chips ... ice cream .. lots of dead bugs ..... :thumb

I've got to say that I'm more than impressed with this little single cylinder beauty:cool
The Dakar is very very comfortable to ride and I can see lots of fun packed days ahead!!!!

Once I get used to not hitting the limiter I'll enjoy it even more

don't worry too much about the limiter. They love revs :thumb2

Went on a run from scunny to whitby and back yesterday, pretty much always above 4k revs :D Low fuel came on at 170, around town its 130 - 140.

Nice to here you are enjoying your new bike, Before I bought my Dakar I was thinking of a used 650 Transalp, Found the Dakar with the taller riding position, better looks, ABS and heated grips won me over,
Hope you have a great time with the bike as I am, Even when going to work on a Monday morning,:aidan

Got my light on at about 160 but I was giving it some at times, just to get the feel of the bike :toungincheek

Was a great day for it! Just been looking outside at the weather and wondering if the wife will put up with another husbandless day!
