I've been thinking about a 690 Enduro..... I gather they've got a power switch under the seat, that you can tweak to a milder setting for off-road use, which will help an off-road steady eddie like me
You can also get luggage for them too, through KTM and Touratech (and probably others), so it could be an ideal candidate for weekend events where I've got to do a few road miles to get there and then do some trails over the weekend....
I'm thinking of doing a KTM Adventure course (Patsy Quick's one) to try one out off-road (and get some tuition on how to use it
In terms of luggage for the 690, you should have a look at the GiantLoop bag (called the great basin). Its much more offroad-friendly than cases, waterproof and completely rock solid - doesnt move even when the bike is crashed (I can testify to that - Ive crashed the 950 with the same bag & not a scratch on the bag & it didnt budge). Moreover, you can still filter through traffic with it.

Hi Guys, here is my KTM 660 Rallye (AKA the money pit). The bike has a few scars, but what would expect from a bike that was raced in the 2007 Dakar (No 147). I’m planning to strip her down, over the next few months, ready for a good clean and partial restoration.

The 690 r is great but its a bit heavy for tight stuff but hey plenty of grunt LOL

Really, do you think so? I've only riden them on the Patsy Quick try out day but I was amazed at how light and forgiving it was (considering it is a 690)
I guess we didnt do anything really tight and nadgery, but it felt as good as my Yam 450 and my skill level and that engine is just awesome! Stuff that my 450 would have been spinning on the 690 just thumped through.

Had a WR400 before this and that was like a pushbike in comparison. LOL still once your used to the extra bit of weight then they go very well. Just about to change gearing as its tad high for off road and I think this will make the bike "feel" lighter anyway

I hear stories about letting the bike tick over for 15 minutes to allow the mapping to settle down - have you come across this ?
Mine has an Akra fitted and was remapped by the dealer and seems alright, although a little lumpy on tickover.

Put a 14 on the front yesterday and did a few tracks today and the bike works a lot better off road. Traction is improved no end and I now use first three gears instead of jiggling between 1 and 2 on the tight stuff. Seems to make the bike feel lighter and less tend to tear off into the distance when you dont need it.

I also have an Akro but I dont beive the mapping has been done but the fueling is great, so much better than the 690 SM I had

Got the sprocket from Tallon but you may need to ring em up as I couldnt seem to get one from anyone else and they dont have it listed on there site
