Hi guys and gals,
Ive bought the wife a gs a few weeks back and looking over it yesterday I noticed the head bearings were very notchy, so off they come and im fitting new ones today at a very good price of £29.53 inc p+p from james sherlock, Im just curious that 7000 miles shouldn't kill a set of bearings
I know that gs's are renowned for the weak head stock and races but only 7000 miles ????

As you say, they are a renowned weak spot.
How about fitting a grease nipple while you have it apart:)

Too late mate, all back together and feeling brill, like I say I know its a weak spot but 7000 miles is taking the wee wee..

Very much depends on the life of the bike. If it has been left outside in the rain, ridden through shitty weather or just not maintained very well. Could also have been poorly fitted by a previous mechanic and overtightened.

Remember to keep a check on them, and nip up any play straight away, any amount of play will wear them as quickly as having them too tight IMHO.
