Chap has an 90/6 with around 55k,one owner. Totaly standart/original condition. Past 10 years more of a show bike. What do I need to do to bring this bike in to the 21st century as a usable touring machine.
Unleaded conversion would be on the cards , but what else?
On the other hand it would be a shame to mess this bike up:nenau, keep it as a piece of history?
My first bike was an R45 , so I am not new to air heads:hide

Might be an idea to PM 'Eng' of this parish. He has/had a really (like REALLY) nice R90/6.....:drool :drool :drool

I don't know him, but I get the feeling that he genuinely knows what he is talking about. I feel sure that he will point you in the right direction.....:)

90/6 Great bike :thumb2

I've not gone unleaded on mine, no valve tightening up yet either :)
Try it first and if the valve gaps tighten then get them converted to unleaded...

Not as tempremental as my 90's's either !!

You dont really need to do anything. most would say that the brakes and lights could do with improving but in reality they are adequate if you ride accordingly. Lets face it theswe bikes were the ultimate touring machines in their day and provided they are well maitained and serviced they will still be good enough for touring. All the bits are available such as panniers and screens to adapt any airhead into a tourer and 55K .... just run in:thumb

Eng still has his R90S, but I bought the R90/6 off him. There are a few mods on it, but it looks pretty original and rides very well. Where are you based? You can have a look at the bike if you want and Eng is less than 10 miles from here and would probably go through the mods with you.

The 90/6 is probably the best of the Airhead engines. It's a lovely engine. Just needs a second front disk to make it really usable. Ditch the dodgy clutch arm retaining pin and put an 8mm bolt through instead. A boyer Microdigital ignition cuts down on maintainance. A handlebar master cylinder conversion improves the braking no end...that's about it.

I saw this yesterday after someone mentioned the sight and fell in love. I would value the panels opinion on it.

If you want to see one in the Flesh send RichC a PM he lives on the outskirts of Nottingham. I'm sure he'd let you look round his.

Is this fairly original ?
Barring the Hagon shocks obviously

Looks it & what do folks think ?

1975 ish? An early one, judging by the alloy indicators. Seat has been recovered. Other than that, colour is right (Bol d'Or red).

After market side stand. That's good.

Looks like original single disc and probably under tank MC too. Hmmm ... Take an anchor with you or restrict your speed.

Silencers look right.

Worth a look and maybe a punt if you're keen to have one and the price is right.

Mirrors are from a much later airhead, I think. Def not original.

Thanks Pete
I think it looks like a good one

That 90/6 is virtually identical to mine, which I've had for about 15 years. I have twin discs - I wouldn't be happy with just one. Lots of astute observations above.

From the limited photos it looks great (they all do) - paintwork too good for its age. It has the early /6 switchgear (similar but not same as /5) and is likely late 1973. The shiny/tiny bolts around the seat base should have trim attached to them. The rev counter needle has lost a little length (or so it appears in the picture).

One key should fit everything but the tank (separate key as it was an option even when new). It's a bit pricey but hey, if that's the market, who's complaining.
