A bit of assistance with Word please …

Right then, I’m one of these folks whose smelling is so foul that I tend to use Word to proof my spelling for virtually everything.

As a result, I tend to open and close Word quite frequently.

My problem is that when I open Word on my PC at work, the default is a magnification of 60%, and my aging eyes can’t cope.

Is there any way of persuading Word to open at 100% zoom ratio?

I’m running Office XP on an XP Pro system.
Any advice would be gratefully received.

i think it just opens at a variable zoom ratio so as to fit open document on the screen widthways.

can't see any way of changing it short of buying a bigger screen.

i didn't look that hard though.

Sorry Zebedee I've just done a test for you on mine and it remembers the last zoom size used!

hi zebedee,

you must open word, change the zoom-factor to 100 % an close word immediately without any other changes. this will overwrite the normal.dot file.

when you open word the next time, it should start with 100 %.

I tried your suggestion wuffi. It didn’t work immediately, but it pointed me in the right direction.

I cured the problem by resetting the zoom to 100%, then saving that document as a template, then replacing normal.dot with the new 100% template.

A bit of a clart on, but things are working the way that I want now.

Ps Cookie, I’m using a 19” monitor as it is … the desk would probably collapse if I got a bigger monitor

I've never used won of korse bekos mi smelling's sooperb but the most poppliar seems to be

IE Spell

and from the looks of the site it's shareware.

No I wasn't aware of the things.

As far as work is concerned, I can't add any stuff to IE because of the company IT policy (especially as I'm the one responsible for the PC's in this office).

When it comes to using my PC at home, I tend to steer as far away from Microsoft as I can, without cutting my nose off ...
