A couple of trailriding oldies complete with 90`s tache`

Trail riding in the peaks photos I think 1990 ish,a brace of Yamahas DT125mx and friend Pauls XT125, our first attempt at a long trailride,we did 100 miles offroad, chen shin tyres ,useless but fast learning curve, after several of these trips,joined TRF as one of trails had been TRO`d. Thought we had best do it legal. Met Dennis Eastwood who became a regular riding buddy.

This one is on the way up from Ladybower road to Hope,Pauls bike having an electrical rest. Would die every half hour. Gave me time to groom my moustache and polish my crusader leathers Rukka plastic coat.




Riding around the bomb hole on I think Shatton Moor above Abney. Get Orf MY Land!!!!! Farmer in Land rover .Only needed telling once.Had a calm chat with him he was ok with us.

Me Cacking Myself gripping bars so tight body rigid. Note the Hi Viz stripe on me coat , oh and me flat cap has blown off.




Lovely memories not many photos,rode every weekend for several years home and away and perhaps only 10 photos.How thats changed since digital and gopro.

Yes,both Paul and his brother,both in a different league to me. There were some excellent riders in south yorks TRF . Paul and John very knowledgeable on Rights of Way. Did and I think still does organizes some top trips for BTBC

Nice pictures from the not so distant past. Your point about only having 10 photos from that era is a valid one. I fall into a similar bracket and wish I had taken a lot more photos.

I didn't take many pictures back then because I took it for granted it would always be there, when the Clarke brothers quit trail riding it would never be the same again.
Runs like Pits of the Past are now consigned to history, they knew paths and lanes that were questionable but most opposers were ignorant at best.
They were great times, 100 mile mainly off road round trips every Sunday for over a decade. Since the NERC act, what is left is hardly worth riding

You forget how much we had to ride............10>15>20 years ago

Pits of the past managed to get my XT in one o them great big crevasses on Maltby tip. How we laughed. Paul organised some great runs, as noobs initiation was lads come past knowing where the boggy bits were then power through 20ft high rooster tails all over me and 2 others. The brothers knowledge was excellent and they would attempt stuff they had researched that was little used ,always an exciting day out.

Johnny he could make his XR look like a toy, boy could he ride well. Learned so much from him and other good riders. Made me competent
Went out with BTBC and he rode that equally well. Used to light up the rear tyre out of corners. I would think I'll see you when I get there fella

When I stopped trailriding in 2004 loads of lanes had closed or been deliberately made into top fettle near my dads,ancient holloways,filled in.
When spending time in the Peaks,so many have gone and it's partly riders/drivers who have caused the problem. The few spoiling for the rest. Riders who ride far too fast, and drivers using trails when thy were too damaged and needed resting. Pulling 30foot of wall down to assist in getting a bogged down vehicle outyou just can't believe the stupidity. Why have you done that I enquired,,,loads of abuse followed and they threatened to bury me under wheels . Mini rant over

Agreed, both John and Paul made there bikes look like mopeds, they never struggled for grip!
I remember riding all the old tips, then onto Warsop, quick couple of laps of the motorcross track, then onto the desert where you could ride all afternoon it was so big.
MCN caused the biggest problem, encouraging sports bike riders onto full on enduro bikes with the lure of racing round the countryside, from that point it was never going to last.
The same is happening with the adventure bike sector now, it seems to be the latest fashion and all the magazines are pushing it.

Nice one Johnny good to see the old Gs bikes there. Some very happy memories of good times. That second lane in Wales looks similar to mine toward Hope, steep and rocky enough to challenge.
